Is this a bit too good to be true, I've seen adverts in to the local paper for guys installing all the Irish channels and the freesat UK channels for €200 to €220 euros.

From my own thoughts of the cost of this

    Combo Box 98.99 from satellite.ie
Aerial with wall mount and fixing kit €30
Mesh dish with LNB including mounting bracket. €40
    Cables and connectors €15
    Approx cost €185

Then the time involved in installing it, must be a couple of hours. I was going to do all this work myself but with those sums above(Not accurate only my own thoughts) would I really be saving anything and better get someone whose used to installing it to do it.

when i had sky installed , it took the guy about 20-30 minutes , spent most of that time setting up his ladder and safety gear

These guys are probably buying in bulk but still can't see them making more than 50 euro.
Still though, would they do 10 installs in 1 day?

And what about Vat and tax and public liability insurance. Diesel and piece of mind that if something goes wrong you can get the installer back to sort it out..... These aren't in your calculations ...

All those parts at consumer prices is somewhere around €140.
So €80 for someone doing a 30 minute nixer?

Doubt they have insurance though, or offer any sort of guarantee.

Really 30 mins for a full combo install ???? i would love to get some of these installers working for me if they can do a full install in 30mins
"discuss with customer what they are getting, discuss dish and aerial site location, Discuss and agree cable route's, install dish, install aerial, route and neatly fix cables , install combo box, explain and show customer working box, write receipt, thank customer"
all that in a 30min nixer, brilliant really

Apologies for the sarcasm but it really is frustrating when people quote prices from cowboys advertising on donedeal or flyers and others say things like "€80 for a 30 min nixer " when all legitimate traders are trying to do things right by law and for the customer. It has been discussed here on boards many times before,OP you are better off getting the job done by your local professional installer, preferably one who is also registered with one of the 3 saorview approved associations. That way if something does go wrong (which does happen from time to time) at least you have a better chance of getting it sorted to your satisfaction.
€200 is cheap so you must ask what corners is he cutting to be able to provide the same product as a legitimate business that much cheaper. I.e. Quality of cable, quality of aerial, quality of workmanship.taxes.

In the end you get what you pay for..

The point I was making is that it probably is a cowboy job, and that there's quite an incentive for them considering they can make 80 - 100 for an hours work.

You forgot to mention how long it takes for the cowboys to disappear with the customers hard-earned in their pockets

How long should it take out of interest?

All depending on dish site, aerial site, use of existing cabling, length of cable runs, shape of the house, but i always say about 1.5 hours for a single box.

Dymo I'd wonder if they are actually supplying a combo box @ 200 euro . Some guys are putting in FTA satellite with analogue Irish channels which will disappear in October.

Desktop PC Boards discount code on https://www.satellite.ie/ is boards.ie
