I am currently about to start sanding a varnished wooden floor, and was thinking of painting it a light cream or off-white colour.

What type of paint should I use, and will it need covered in a varnish afterwards to protect it?

    Hi Niman,
I painted a previously varnished stairs. Took the lazy approach and primed with

Expensive, but at least you dont have to remove varnish. (Stinks, so best done on a day that suits open windows)

Then you can get paint specifically for floor. Again expensive but gives a really good finish that will stand up to alot of abuse. Havent had to touch mine up in over a year and being a stairs its pritty high usage.

Think it was fleetwood if memory serves and had it mixed to match a colour from the Farrow and Ball range.

    Enjoy!
