I'll be looking to get a car in the next few weeks. I have about 8000 to spend. I'lbe doing small miles about 150 a week so it can be petrol.
I was looking for comfort and power, and a good spec.
I was thing along the lines of a 330ci, S60R, 05+ gti, clk, and maybe a Mazda 6 mps.

I was going to have a look at this one,

    Anything to lookout for?

After buying my 325ci, about 2 months ago, definitely one to consider! Absolutely lovely machines, cracking engines.

As for things to check, I'd ask about whether or not the water pump has been changed, at that mileage it really should have been. Mine hasn't had it done just yet, but it's on my to do list. Also listen out for knocking from the rear of the car, could point to sub frame issues, or cracked springs. They are pretty reliable cars all in all, I did a lot of research before going for one as people on this forum will know!

As for the fuel consumption, going purely by the on board comp, around town it claims I get 26mpg, but in reality it is most likely a lot worse than that. I don't really want to know what it really is tbh! It wasn't made to be an eco box!

If you're looking for more of a performance car, you probably wont find a nicer 6 MPS than this one:

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/3571681

Having seen it in the flesh on numerous occasions, it is absolutely mint. And also goes like stink!

Thanks Alan, that mps is lovely. I was already talking about it but it's out of my price range unfortunately.
I take it the 330 engine is similar to the 325 in terms of things to check for. I'll have to read all of your thread.

325 and 330 should be pretty much identical as for things to check.

Great that you enjoy your car and love it

but after driving both 325 and 520 and 525 i'd actually go with the 5 series of around the year 2002

theres just a much different feel to the 5er. its nicer

OP i have same budget and much the same in terms of cars i was looking at over the last couple months and all the Gti's i have seen bar 1 at that price are muck and you won't find a nice 6 MPS for 8k really :(

330i would be a pig to tax tbh so i wouldn't even consider one personally

I drove one a few years ago, nice power in it but the price of that one would be way too much imo.

Well to be fair, they're both pretty different cars. One is a 2 door coupe, and the other is a 4 door family saloon. Asides from the engine, i'd say they're not really all that comparable. There is no way I would have even considered a 5 series when I was looking.

I'd be happy with a nice 4 door but I don't think ill be going for a 5 series, a bit too big for me for now

Im the same, and in the unlikely event of tax staying as it currnetly is for the next 3-4 years i would deffo have my eye on a future 08/09 535d @ 300 euros tax p/a that or a 530d at 156 euro a year

The price is just too high for me, the Alpina isn't too far of them but I dont know much about getting parts for them, cost and all that.

I'm going to try and have a look at an 840 in the next few days

If you think parts and cost are cheaper for a 840 then a alpina then

A decent 840 will cost you alot more then that alpina.

The cost and parts for the alpina aint that expensive unless your getting dealer parts imo

I didnt know what the alpinas parts would cost, is the 840s parts and services really that much more?
    Which would u take ?

BMW parts are pricey enough for their normal cars. Parts for their cars that even whiff of performance are quite a bit dearer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,603 ✭✭✭thecomedian

I drove a 02 330ci auto, lovely sound of it and I was impressed with the auto.
    Is the manual alot better?
Though its not exactly what im looking for but it had me thinking.
