Should the GAA go professional?

The GAA is going to have great difficulty retaining it's best athletes unless it can offer generous financial rewards to it's best players. How many other mass participation sports have no professional players? Very few if any.

I would say the country is capable of sustaining 10 or 12 professional GAA teams, most of which would be based in towns and cities. The professional league could be run by a new organization, totally separate from the GAA while the GAA itself would retain the rights to the existing leagues and county championship. This arrangement would improve the standard of football in the country and prevent soccer and rugby teams poaching talented GAA players. It would also give people living in crap, sorry I mean “weak” GAA counties a competitive regional team that would have some hope of success.

What do you think. Should the GAA go professional or stay amateur?

This topic has been discussed to death in the past. I don't see the need to discuss it any further.
