    hi lads,just back from a short 32km flat spin.my average was 30km.i cycle with a group twice a week.on my own today,i was wondering what my average would have been for this same route/conditions if i was in the group today??is there a certain figure that you add to your average?i presume it would be higher.;)

    group normally does 32km av.basically wondering if my efforts today equate to that

    You really cannot tell as there are so many factors - wind conditions, how big is the group, how close do you ride to the guy in front, how much time do you spend on the front

    In addition, an extra 2kph at 30kph involves a lot more effort than an extra 2kph at 25kph

    In terms of anecdotal "evidence" - In my case I typically average just under 30kph when cycling alone. In a race today, putting in not much more effort, I averaged over 35kph

    in perfect conditions riding an indoor track at the highest level they reckon that when in a line the guy in 2nd place puts out around 30% less power than the guy on the front. The guy in 3rd place requires around 45% less power to maintain the same pace
