RTE (lack of) weekend news updates

I know that the news is still broadcast on TV and radio as normal at weekends, but does anybody else find that the lack of news updates to the RTE website at weekends is unbelievable?

I can picture it now, 5pm on Friday comes, and an office somewhere in RTE sits empty, while Irish people around the world are left without news updates from RTE until 9am on Monday. If RTE wants to be a serious news agency, I think they need to put more resources into their website.

Has anyone else noticed this problem?

Most news websites get quiet at the weekend, that's typical of the news cycle. I agree that RTÉ's site is particularly quiet, but they have far fewer staff available for that sort of work. RTÉ are old-fashioned, they focus more on TV and radio than their website.

Happens a lot with traditonal media outlets, perhaps symptomatic of a "clock in/clock out" mentality. I remember in 2009 when Michael Jackson died, which was around 6-7pm on that day, it was absolutely everywhere - as it was arguably the entertainment story of the year - yet the Irish Independent didn't update their site until the next morning.

How nobody at that outlet decided to upload even an AP report on the story baffles me.

Often notice the headline radio news on RTE over the weekends rarely have any Irish items. Usually they carry some of the main items on the BBC

Sorry for coming back on this item but this morning at 7 am on RTE one Radio news headlines there was not one item relating to the Republic of Ireland. Quiet night!
