How much is my car worth I wonder?

Considering selling my car but it's hard to put a price on it. Can someone recommend a good starting price or what it's worth in these rotten recession times?

    Audi (2002) A4 1.9 TDI
    NCT'd till April 2013
Just had the full service a few weeks ago
    194K miles
First 155K were done on UK roads as car was imported. Company car, very well maintained before I got it and very well maintained by myself. Driven on only good roads and never driven badly.

Car is in top notch condition. Power steering, elec windows , esp, all the standard things you'd expect.

So, given the above information what would be a good starting price I wonder? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Did you get the issues with limp mode sorted?
If you didn't, the car is worth very little.

Not yet, but I havent been back to the mechanic yet. Hes still waiting on the part that hasn't arrived yet.

Limp mode included (worst case scenario) what would you reckon?

€4000 if it was in perfect working order ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,032 ✭✭✭Jimbob 83

€4000 would be insanity for a car with 200,000 miles

    Eh.....no ! Prob 1500 given high mileage

If you are going out expecting 4k you are going to be sorely dissapointed

not quite 200K. but the car is in perfect condition like. its no comparrison to an irish born car with those miles. that engine is good for 400K anyway

There is not a hope in hell id pay 4k for a ANY car going on 200k so it dos not mater how much better your car is spec wise at the end of the day the mileage is high on it.

i know - but 6K is a far cry from 4K and the others iv seen arent too far off so that seems to be what their worth. its just an example is all. i know they mightent get it.

You should get a rock bottom price of €3000 when you are selling private,

I'd be holding out for €3500 at least though

It's up there for a month. Very few people in Ireland will buy a car with 100k on it, never mind 200k. While you know how well the car was looked after, the possible new owner doesn't and would consider that type of milage as a massive risk. Without researching the prices, I would say anything over 2k would be good.

That's very true and a lot of people would prob rather save 2k and just get the car with the extra few mile's on it but at the end of the day its a buyers market at the moment so it all depends on what they will pay. There would be no harm in sticking it up for 4k and just see what happens as long as your not in a rush to sell it.

Why come here asking advice when you have an answer for everything we have suggested ?

If you get over €2500 hats off but it's unlikely

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 69 ✭✭Jumpaddict

Well you came for opinions so here goes....Advertise all you like at 4000, it won't sell. If it does, set up a garage yourself and start a business because you know something the rest of us don't.

I don't mean to sound 'smart' with that comment, but the fact is you have a high mileage car, thats 10 years old and is not mechanically perfect. I have no problem with high mileage cars that have been taken care of and are running well, but expensive problems will occur over the next 50k. If you got between 1500 and 2000 I would take arm and all of the new buyer if I was you.

If can't let it go for less than 4000, then fix it up and keep it. Its worth more to you that way. My 2 cents

cheers Mark but i think ill stay clear of you no offence. you basically screwed me over with my air conditioning. you charged me a whopping 200 euro for a regas and then turned around and tell me that it never needed a regas and the clutch was gone in the compressor. wel mark, i can tell you one thing sir - and that is that my compadres here in boards.ie reckon that it's not possible to regas the a/c without the clutch engaging.

screw me once, shame on you, screw me another time shame on me for letting you try. basically, you cant screw a screwer

True as that may be you're still wrong. Its tough when you're a mechanic and have a bad bladder.

2000-2500 I'd think, those high miles would knock a good bit off

I don't see anything embarrassing about 1500 quid for a ten year old diesel banger that's been to the moon.
More of an embarrassment bringing old bridie into it.

It's far from a banger. Must be seen. First to see will buy, or my name isn't Little Jacob.

You could get a Toyota rust bucket for that price. And don't disrespect my oul one.
