To qualify for btea I have to be 21 but what I'm unsure of is when I need to be 21.
    Before the course start date?
On the 1st Jan of that year?
Can't find any info about it online

I think it is the 1st of Jan that year but I'm not 100% certain. I've applied for it too but I'm 23.

    Thanks.
I won't be 21 until April so hopefully it's not Jan!
Gonna ask in the sw office on tuesday but I'd be surprised if I get a straight answer :/

I'd think it was 21 at the time of application/commencement of the course. They'd usually be more specific if they wanted it from 1 Jan.

I looked this up before and I believe that you have to be of eligible age by the first of January for the year the course commences. I'm 90% on that. It was last year that I was looking this up so I'm not sure where I read it. I could be in the wrong, or maybe it has changed but that is how I believe it is.

I found this after a bit more research
Leaving Certificate ( Repeat LC maybe allowed for persons who are at least 23 years of age on the 1st January of the year of re-entry)

It's the only one that they specified the 1st of January for so maybe it has something to do with the LC

Also googling btea and 1st january the results I was getting were all about mature students.

Argh I hate how hard hard it is to find out info about these things!

For BTEA you need to be aged 21 by the start date of the course. You can qualify if you are aged between 18-20 if you have been out of formal education for at least 2 years.

To apply as a Mature Student for the grant you need to be 23 by the 1st of January of the year of entry
