Hi All, need your help. We are currently at slab level on our new build. Our house is an 'L' shape with the main front door in the corner (centre) of the L. I want to go for a modern style porch ie slanted roof or flat roof entry but my partner tells me it has to be a pitched roof porch over the door because of the fall of the roof is a valley. Hes not too sure if we can do the porch roof any other way because of this. Just wondering if any at archies know a way around this, thanks a mill.

What is on your planning drawings. In my (limited) experience planning departments are somewhat obsessive about porches.

    Hi OP,
Not sure from your explanation - pitch is the degree or slope angle the roof is at. A 'valley' is required when 2 separate pitches intersect - i.e. where the 'duo - pitch' (double pitch) roof intersects with the duo pitch roof on the long section of your 'L' shaped building.
You shouldn't allow the roof surface rainwater run off drain from the valley on to a porch (smaller area surface) from a valley or otherwise.
Porch roof construction - traditionally a 'hipped' or 'mono pitch' design would have its own gutter and down pipe for its roof surface rainwater run off.

Planning is the one to be very careful off - amendments should be submitted and in consultation with your architect or Engineering professional - to keep your planning submissions to a miniumum, as the other poster said - they can be quite contrary about porches / and amendments of that nature

    Hi there,

Ive attached the roof view of the house. You can see the porch roof design branching off the 'L'. I want to basically know if any other type of roof can be built or does it have to be pitched. Thanks :)

If you have the front elevation of the house also so as a more informed opinion could be given in the overall context of heights etc at that junction.
