Macbook Pro turns on but no boot up

Have a 2007 MBP. When I press the on button it makes the normal mechanical sounds, like the hard drive engaging, the fan comes on, and whatever else, but the screen won't come on. The caps lock light doesn't come on either. the sleep light will come on though so there is some kind of life.

Any idea what I can do to get this going again? Battery is full life and doesn't seem to be the problem. Obviously I can't get access to screen to reinstall or reset anything.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

It's your logic board. Same thing happened mine last week

Just confirm it in evad or some other apple accredited shop.

But more than likely you'll have to start looking for a new computer

affirmative on the new computer. Have got lots of mileage out of this, that also means travel so its taken its fair share of minor bumps.

Did the exact same thing happen to yours? making the mechanical noises but no screen or keyboard activity? I'll give a mac shop a shout on Monday but not the guys I used last time. computer came back in a state, including metal casing bent out of shape, screws missing, and screws not even screwed in properly.

Anyway, enough of the rant, quick question, if the computer is fried, is there anyway of recovering data from the hdd? I backed up during the week but had important work on it that I hadnt backed up inbetween then and when the problem occured

400 odd euro for a logic board? Yikes! Is it worth getting fixed? If I was able to get the data off the hard drive then I'd be happier

Just take the HDD out and stick it in a caddy.

exact same my friend, mine was a late 2008 one though.

but yeah, you hit your power button, you hear the noises, but it just hums, no response from the keyboard etc......

its annoying because theres no warning. Its fine one minute, f**ked the next.

There are a few things that can cause this.
I would like to know if the OP gets this checked out.
It is not for sure dead.

I had the same issue on my 2007 MBP a year or 2 ago, it was a known issue which is covered under apple warranty (even if your warranty is expired).

I brought my laptop to a accredited Mac Repair place in Dublin and they replaced the logic board for free. My MBP was well out of warranty, and I'd also opened it up to replace the HDD so invalidating any warranty, but was no issue.

Sounds like its the same problem you have.

If its a burnt out Nvidia 8 series chip you may be able get a free of charge repair, regardless of age as its a known defect. check this site out, be prepared for a fight though ;)

Was no fighting to get mine repaired. I was told they couldn't promise anything until they had dismantled the machine as they had to investigate if it was actually the Nvidia issue. Took about a week all in all.

Not always that lucky ;) . I'd say if you don't have the care plan as well the repair may not be as straight forward!

Mmm, maybe I was just lucky! Didn't have AppleCare or anything, so maybe just caught someone on a good day. I brought it to these guys anyway:
