    hi everyone,

The Burke Theatre has a seating capacity of 406 -- see http://www.tcd.ie/conferences/ConferenceCentre/TrinityConferenceCentre/

As mentioned earlier, Charles Bolden's talk is this Thursday, July 12th, at 1pm. There is no ticketing -- seats are allocated on a first come, first served basis (I confirmed this with the US Embassy last week). Do take the opportunity visit the exhibition on Ernst Walton in TCD as well -- his Nobel medal is on display as well as the citation.

Check out http://www.dublinscience2012.ie/highlights/ for numerous other science events being held. The Alchemists Cafe @ The Clarion Hotel this coming week has a terrific line-up -- see http://www.alchemistcafedublin.com/

hope to see you at one or more of the Festival events!

    John

Deeply unfortunate that I can't be there, I really fancied that. Oh well these things happen. I am sure I can get there again another day.

Anyone here go to this in the end? I was there and found it very enjoyable. Some chap in the crowd asked "Is there an Area 51 and has man been to the moon". He didn't seem to hear the second part as it was kind of mumbled though luckily. Ridiculous.

Really enjoyed this talk. He is a great public speaker and came across really well, interacting with the kids at the front. That's something they'll remember for a long time. He became obviously emotional when discussing the friends he lost on Challenger. It was a shame some clown had to ask about area 51 and whether we really went to the moon, and another whether we can travel out of the solar system. The musical interlude was bizarre.

I noticed that as well. He seemed to well up a little. Yeah I also rolled my eyes to the "can we travel to outside the solar system anytime soon" question, but what can you do, like he said there's no stupid questions. (except for the area 51)
