hi all i think its time to say goodbye to my old car and replace it. i was thinking of the skoda octavia as it is a good size for me, biggish but not to big and its a hatch back with a great boot. i have seen a few i like on the net but need a bit of help regarding which one is the best for me. the one i am keen on is a 1.9tdi but when i went looking for a review on a 2009 i.9tdi i couldn't find one, all that was said is that it was noisy. do any skoda drivers have any info to help my decision. why is there so many similar engines ie 1.8, 1.9, 2.0 diesels. i will admit now i don't have any real knowledge of engines so feel free to make things as simple as you can

    cheers

1.9tdi for big mileage - as in more than 20k km per year.

1.4tsi for low mileage - as in less than 20k km per year.

    Best of luck :)

maybe under 20000, at the moment but it would me one of two cars in the family, the other is a 1.4 petrol so the skoda would take over most of the journeys. so if we were to get a diesel the annual mileage would increase.

open to corection but i think around 09 was when they droped the 1.9tdi and it was then eather the 1.6tdi or the 2.0tdi both with DPF

if it was between the 1.6tdi and 1.4tsi id go with the tsi, found the 1.6tdi a bit unrefined

the older 1.9tdi is whats in my 05 and bar replaceing the turbo at just over 200K Km its been trouble free,it dose need new rear lower bushings on the front yearly tho
