    Folks,

it has recently come to my attention that the voice coming from Stephen Hawkins wheel-chair may not in fact be the thoughts of Stephen Hawkins but instead the voice of another individual/group of people.

The reason I have come to this conclusion is because of his current speech system. It works by detecting movements in his right cheek through an infrared sensor attached to his glasses which measures changes in light.

This to me this sounds impossible solely from a practical perspective, for a healthy human to be capable of speech, we have access to a whole spectrum of frequencies to use but all Stephen has is his cheek..

So I've googled how this system works and have only got written descriptions, there is no video footage of this system.

I am far from sure that this is case but it is definitely possible.

Anyways if it is true, the reason is to sell books and to give more credibility to a certain idea and if this is the case then it is possibly the best piece of marketing ever conceived, imo.

The computer gives him various lists on the screen that are highlighted in a cycle. When the cursor is over the option he wants he flexes his cheek which selects that option.
The lists include common words and phrases he uses and an alphabet should he need to spell something out.

It takes him a long time to write stuff, but it's not impossible or particularly far fetched.

Isn't it basicly the same technology used by chopper pilots to target their gun systems?

    That exists

The technology is a bit more advanced than a cassette player to be fair. Now if you said he was a DVD or a BluRay player then you might be on to something...

People who invent conspiracy theories do so to give more credability to certain ideas and sell books.

What about when he had the use of his hand to control communication?

You personally don't seem to understand it. Hardly grounds for a far-fetched theory. They are even working on a system for when he loses control of this function.
