I feed tripe most of the winter it will turn ur dogs inside out , full of all the things a dog need , I'd suggest a good worm tablet tho . And only during the winter , tripe during the summer is just a dirty smelly mess with blue fly .

it's supposed to be good for putting weight on dogs. alot of trainers recommend using it if you have a busy season, helps to keep condition on dogs but it's supposed to leave their dung very tacky.

Hello Al2, used green tripe for a number of years.I found it to be very good feeding for dogs. Less to clean out of the run, dogs are in much better overall condition. In summer use a barrel filled with water to store it and no problem. the water can be used on your garden. If you have access to a ready supply use it , you wont regret it. You don't have to use wormers as it will not be a problem. Feed each dog a chunk about 1lb weight each day.Once a day is enough for them.

Hello Alchemist, there is no need for nuts. You could give a little occasionally for carb intake.Soda bread would also do.

Tripe and Drisheen is very much considered an old cork dish and can still be gotten in some pubs and in the english market..

The fact people use it for dog food says it all really!!

Lads, what are your thoughts on dog nuts in general?

More as regards health wise long term,

For example, a dogs not designed to eat wheat or grains, I can't imagine there being much nutrition in dog nuts, and could someone fill me in on, what is ash?

When I got my dog I was advised two cups twice a day and never really questioned it. But reading about metabolic typing and the human body and what food us (humans eat) it has made me think feeding a dog REAL food is very important.

I have only just started this week, and got scraps from my butcher, saute, marrow bones for free and giving him table scraps and eggs. What are your thoughts?

Tbh, scraps imo cant be beat when comparing to nuts though was feeding royal canine a couple of yrs back and dogs did very well on it but its cost prohibitive imo, have a bag of engage left and after that just gonna get some cheap nuts as a filler to accompany scraps from the table, have been keeping dogs just over 20yrs and all the dogs that were fed solely on scraps were far more defined muscle wise and appeared to have more stamina

The tripe humans eat is from sheep whereas the tripe you usually feed to working dogs is from cows ! Beef tripe is in my opinion the best food bar none for a working springer.....

ok ,so at the risk of sounding dumb:o i presume you can get tripe free from most butchers, as most people wouldnt eat beef tripe and if you can get it how long would it last stored in a barrel of water? just curious as with every lad/lassie here they want the best for there dog/dogs and in top healthy condition for the season

you would be lucky to get it free, huge demand for tripe where i work, very hard to get green tripe now with all the regulations, you would have to go straight to the slaughter house for that most butcher shops wont have the green, they can get plenty clean tripe but its not as good
