A380 and rear clearance

Was flying back from LHR on Saturday last at midday. We were queued up at runway 27R, the north runway, our plane more or less pointing NNW and me in a window seat on the right. Ahead of us in the queue was a Singapore A380. While we were waiting, I looked out my window and could see the planes coming into runway 27L (south runway). I noticed that the next plane coming in appeared to be barely moving so I figured it must be a biggie and right enough, it was an Emirates A380. Now I also noticed that there was a larger than usual gap to the next plane coming in, previously I was able to see the next three planes coming in but there was a larger than usual gap behind the A380.

I also noticed that we were waiting longer than usual when the A380 in front of us went on to the runway and disappeared. Now it's possible than a plane or two that I couldn't see were allowed to take off from earlier spots on 27R but it set me wondering as to what are the rules for clearance behind an A380 when landing and taking off?
