Captain's Day seems to be the big competition in most Irish clubs. Not looking to debate what comp is biggest in your club, but looking for a steer on how your club does it. Grateful to anyone who can give an indication of the following in their club:

    + Format?
    +Dinner arrangements etc?
    +Options: i.e. golf only option?
    + Price?
+ Price to bring a guest to dinner etc?

    Gowran Park, Kilkenny.
+ Format? - 18 hole strokeplay on saturday late June, draw for teetimes, no prior qualifying necessary... ~100 players (men) on the day.
    +Dinner arrangements etc? - Dinner/drinks/party afterwards.
    +Options: i.e. golf only option?
    + Price?
+ Price to bring a guest to dinner etc? -
Went for a reduced price this year with a buffet meal instead of full service which was excellent and helped with the value. Cost was €20 for golf including the meal and €10 to bring a guest to the meal. A big turnout on the night - the lack of a golf-only option was better IMO.

    Greystones Golf Club

    + Format?
Stableford. It used to be played on one day, but this is the second year when the top 128 will be picked over two days (tomorrow and Sunday) to qualify for a final round next week, going out in reverse order. It adds a real edge to the competition and requires some degree of consistency to win.

    +Dinner arrangements etc?
There's a dinner after the final round and prize presentation across about 20 categories (!). When it was a single round, the dinner didn't usually start until after 11pm, so that was one of the reasons for the change in format.

    +Options: i.e. golf only option?
Most of the golfers book their place/table for dinner well in advance as it's the competition and social occasion of the year.
There's also a putting competition on the practice green, beer on tap and free food (burger) halfway round.

    + Price?
Not sure. Usually 30 quid or so which includes wine.

+ Price to bring a guest to dinner etc?
    N/A

    Kenmare G.C. Kerry
+ Format? Played over 18 holes and alternates between stroke and stableford for the captains and presidents every year.
+Dinner arrangements etc? No big sit down dinner, just food after the round usually a cold plate.
+Options: i.e. golf only option? No golf only option
+ Price? €20 which includes the food. (Personally I think this is a bit on the steep side, but not surprising considering we pay €10 for ordinary weekend comps which includes €1 towards a 2's comp).
+ Price to bring a guest to dinner etc? N/A but guests are welcome any time during the day and the evening presentation.

    + Dinner arrangements:
Captain's dinner on Sat night. Think it was 3 course last year for €30 which I thought was too expensive and didn't go.

€30 for dinner last year. Not sure what the arrangements are going to be this year.

I have a friend that is currently looking at organising a Annual golf event that takes the winner of each captains day from each golf club in Ireland and they all play off to get the "Captain of Irish Golf".

Think its planned for next year.
Winner gets tickets to the Masters for 2

Amazing prize if true but I believe there's already a competition where the winners of Ireland's Club Captain's Prizes compete in a national final, think it was held in Portlaoise a few years ago. There's a thread about it here somewhere

Sorry yes it's Roscrea and not Portlaoise who host the competition. Here's the thread on it here

Apologies OP for the derailment of the thread although somewhat relating to Captain's Prize formats.
