Is this lens any good or just too cheap?

Sports would require a faster shutter speed than most photography, which would kinda make IS a bit redundant.

Never really did any wildlife, but if you're looking for birds taking flight and such, again, super fast shutter speeds, so you wouldn't be getting any motion blur or camera shake anyway.

I have the Nikon version and theres nothing wrong with it especially for the price. Used it without a tripod plenty of times at high zooms and hasnt left me down so far

Edit: Quick zoo pic using it

That was at 300mm, 1/400 without a tripod

So for taking landscapes this would be good but panning shots wouldn't be great. Thanks guys. Might go ahead and get it while it's reduced.

I would say 90% of us had one of these at some stage, I think it is a
fantastic lens for the money, wouldnt be using it for landscapes much
though, if you have a crop sensor on the camera then it is more like a
105 to 450mm length, so ideal for portrait (shorter end) and wildlife,
sports and anything in between at the longer end.

Well worth the money in my opinion.

The macro function is not bad either, allows you to get closeup shots
without being on top of the subject.

What would you recommend for say, zooming across bays to photograph far off mountains/peninsulas? I suppose a lens that's out of my budget!

It would probably do for that type of thing, landscapes would usually be
taken with a wide angle, say up to 35mm depending on what you want to
include in the shot, there are no hard and fast rules as such, so anything
goes, you will get good use from that lens anyway.

This is usually the lens that people go for there's a good zoom on it, not too powerful but for the price its a great lens!
