Seat Ibiza door not unlocking....

    Hi

Have a 2006 Seat Ibiza. A few weeks ago I had to have the electric window mech replaced in the passenger door. Since then there has been problems - the auto lock (when the car hits 15kph) doesn't work on that door....it locks and then unlocks on its own (but it locks ok when car us stopped) and the interior light doesn't come on when the passenger door is opened.

However, this morning when I went to unlock the car the passenger door won't unlock at all. Tried everything like using the remote locking, the manual unlocking with the key and the interior lock button but no joy.

As these problems have happened since the repair on the window, is it possible that the mechanic messed something up? He's a former Seat mech and the work was done in a former Seat garage.

If there is something major to be done, should the garage have to pay for the work if they caused the problem in the first place?

Not sure if this should be posted here or in the Consumer Issues area but thought would be best getting the views of motor people first :)

    Thanks

    John

Just go back to the garage and explain, no need to go legal yet

Only prob is the garage owner is a bit of a shyster. He'll no doubt claim that it's totally unrelated to the autolock and the interior light problems. I'd say that the mech must have swapped the wires or something which could have damaged the locking mechanism.

Well, will be tues or so till I'll be able to get back to the garage so passengers will have to climb over the seats :D

Does pulling the inner handle not unlock the door?

Nope - not now. It used to but now its not working. Can still feel a bit of resistance when I pull it but it doesn't seem to be activating the lock.

Do you know if pulling the handle inside is totally mechanical or if it activates something electric in the lock? As you can guess by now I'm not mechanically minded lol.

It's a strange one cos it was all grand before they repaired the window problem.

Problem Solved. Prised lock off with chisel. Put in new lock and spent hours getting inner card back on door.
Not recommended job but it was a sunny day and saved any garage charge!!!
