Looking for a dentist that offers reasonably priced brace treatment

I had braces when I was younger and foolishly did not wear the retainer I was given at the time and my teeth have 'slipped' a little bit. To be honest many of my friends think I am mad even considering getting braces as an adult but having been severely teased about them when I was younger it is something I am very self concious about.

I have spoken to a few dentists on the matter over the last few years and all have agreed that my teeth do not really require a lot of work to get them back to the way I want them. However any quotes I have gotten are a bit on the obscene side for a tidy up job. I cannot seem to find any dentist that would do the treatment for under 2k ! That is after I pay for x-rays and a consultation fee. Even though the work could comfortably be done in 6 months or less.

I was hoping somebody here might have some suggestions for dentists I can try. I would be limited to the Leinster area and am wailing to try either clear braces or standard wire braces, to be honest (in spite of what my desire to get my teeth perfect might suggest ) I am not vain and will happily wear either option.

    Thanks so much :D

Have you been for a consultation with a specialist orthodontist?

If you've not a lot of work to be done on your teeth, then 2k is ok in my opinion, exactly what do you mean by not a lot of work?

I spent that on fillings and root canals (4/5 fillings/2 root canals), xrays, and cleaning in a year to get my teeth into shape after years of avoiding dentists.

I also need braces, and unlike a lot of people have too few rather than too many teeth, so need my bite pulled forward and widened and will have braces for approx. 18 months, those lovely train tracks that have wires, and whatever else.

I got a couple of quotes for those and it's around the 3.5 - 4k mark.

I've been saving up to firstly get my two root canals crowned, then get the braces when the crowns have settled. I'm in my late thirties so that's two years before I have nice teeth, and then I may need an implant so that will be more dosh.

After that, it's six monthly checkups and hopefully I'll have straight and healthy teeth to see me into old age.

It's a lot of money in 3-5 years, but for me, it will be worth it long term,, and I'd rather do it properly and over the time I can afford it, with dentists/orthodontists I am not afraid of (fear of the dentist kept me away for 8 years) rather than going for a potentially cheaper option that may not be as good.

Most orthodontists that I've even enquired with when I was pricing treatment take a chunk of the overall cost, then you pay the rest monthly.

Or you can get a loan?

I can recommend an orthodonist in Portlaoise if you pm me, they were recommended to me by three other adults in their thirties who all went there for treatment.

I'd really advise about choosing who does your braces with care, look for references, and don't base everything on the price.
