Mate of mine had a tip this morning in his car..basically ran into the back of a avensis this morning about 5mph and now the guy is claiming 1400 to fix the back of the bumper.
The garage is quoting for a replacement one, bumper bar , car hire , labour of about a grand etc to fix it
Not sure if he has stepback NCB but if he did go through his insurance how much of an increase on his premium could he expect?
Nononsense couldn't give him a definite answer..

He's entitled to get his own quote too.

he can get as many quotes, as he likes, but the victim of the OP's "friends" bad driving, has no obligation, to a) accept any other quotes, or b) let the OP's friend get anyone else to give a quote on the damage.
The victim can simply sue the OP's friend for the damages they claim, and they'll be granted them by a court.

Even if it goes to insurance, I dont see any professional assessor drive down the costs, as they seem reasonable relative to costs for new parts.

The guy he hit gets to decide where to have his own car repaired.

@ Blazer - his insurance company are the only people who can answer that question.

I would certainly inform the insurance company as the guy he hit might wake up tomorrow with a stiff neck from his other half/friends/family talking in his ear all night bout how a few grand could really help in paying towards a holiday, new TV,patio etc.

If his insurance company cannot answer this question then there is not a hope that anyone here can.

BTW the injured party is entitled to have his car put back to the way it was prior to the accident.

I don't mean to sound pedantic, but he's not 'letting' anything. The guy he hit decides where the car is repaired, and whether or not it goes through insurance. :)
