Irish Formula Vee, in conjunction with Dunlop Tyres and Total Oils are holding the Irish Formula Vee Festival at Mondello Park on 21/22 July 2012 with all proceeds from the weekend going to the Barretstown charity for children with serious illnesses.

Gate receipts and programme sales along with the proceeds of a charity auction (MC Leo Nulty) on Saturday night will see funds going directly to Barretstown. There will also be a barbeque on the Saturday night in the bar at Mondello Park and high speed passenger rides around the race track on both days. A Formula 1 race simulator will be trackside for the full weekend.

The fun filled weekend will see championship racing on both Saturday and Sunday from classes such as Formula Sheane, ITCC, Global Lights, Formula Ford, Historics and more; all culminating in the Formula Vee Festival final.

In keeping with the Vee theme, all air cooled vehicles will have free entry to the track over the weekend. There will also be a display of classic Volkswagen cars and buses supported by the Eircooled Club of Ireland. Entry for all others is €10 per car with all proceeds going to Barretstown.

If you would like to help out or enquire about static displays, please don't hesitate to contact me via PM or a member of the Irish Formula Vee group through the website. There is also a link to the event on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/events/151485991653941/).

Hot off the press: Micks Garage (www.micksgarage.ie) are now supporting the heats and semi-finals of the Formula Vee Festival in aid of Barretstown. They'll be giving away 100 free Festival tickets over the next two Fridays. Check their website for a chance to win free tickets.

They'll also be providing some items for the Saturday night auction in aid of Barretstown.

Great to see another reputable company getting involved!

I`ll be the quickest one to the gravel trap :)

Does that mean you'll be travelling quickest when you land in the gravel? Or you'll be in the gravel first?

For those with children, Pony Express are taking along some clowns for face painting and balloon making on the Sunday. We're also hoping to have a bouncy castle set up beside the playground... so hopefully the kids will be fully catered for!

Is there a timetable for the two days (i.e. what time each race is taking place?). I want to attend but will prob only be able to make a morning or afternoon and would love to catch some of the historics, globals or vees on track...

The Festival races are going to be all action shootout style... promises to be great for spectators and drivers alike!

    - Every driver will have a qualifying session on Saturday afternoon.

    - Drivers only racing in the Festival races will have their own seperate qualifying session.

    - Grid positions for the heats will be decided on the following basis:
    - Fastest 1/3 into Festival Heat No.1 (ie P.1 to 12 if a total of 36 cars)
    - Fastest 2/3 into Festival Heat No.2 (ie P.13 to 24 if a total of 36 cars)
    - Fastest 3/3 into Festival Heat No.3 (ie P.25 to 36 if a total of 36 cars)

    - Grid positions for the semi finals will be decided on the following basis:
    - Fastest race lap in each heat will seed positions for the semi finals (ie if Heat 2 has fastest race lap, then winner of Heat 2 will be seeded 1st. Heat 3 has faster fastest race lap than Heat 1, then winner of Heat 3 will be seeded 2nd. Heat 1 has slowest race lap, then winner of Heat 3 is seeded 3rd. Followed by runner up of Heat 2, runner up of Heat 3, runner up of Heat 1, etc...)
    - Once seedings have been worked out, the No.1 seed will start pole for Semi Final 1, No. 2 seed will start pole for Semi Final 2, No. 3 seed will start P2 for Semi Final 1, No. 4 seed will start P2 for Semi Final 2, etc...)

    - Grid positions for the Final will be decided on the following basis:
    - Semi Final with fastest race lap will seed the drivers with uneven numbers (ie winner will be seeded P1 for final, runner up will be seeded P3 for final, etc...)
    - Semi Final with slower race lap will seed the drivers with even numbers (ie winner will be seeded P4 for final, runner up will be seeded P4 for final, etc...)
    - Once the seedings (and grid positions) for the final have been decided, balls with numbers 6 to 10 will be put in a hat and the number drawn will decide on the number of grid position reversals at the front (ie if ball 7 is drawn, then seed 7 will go to P1 on the grid, seed 6 will go to P2 on the grid... all the way down to seed 1 will go to P7 on the grid)
    - All other seedings will remain in their grid position once this grid reversal ball is drawn

    - There will be trophies for Top 3 in each heat, Top 3 in each semi final and Top 3 in the final.

    - The Festival is open to both UK and Irish cars. All cars must meet the current UK or Irish specification with the exception of the following rule: "anyone who has not raced in the current season, may use last years tyres for the Festival races". This is encourage people who have not had a chance to race so far this season to come out and have some fun.

Below is the mail sent out to all class reps:

    *****************************
    Lads/Ladies

This is a quick email on behalf of the Vee Festival committee just to say thank you to all classes that raced at the Formula Vee Festival weekend and their helpers, hangers on, sponsors, fans, etc. The weekend turned out to be probably the best car race weekend and social event in a few years at Mondello Park. In addition to showcasing racing to new visitors, we have raised a substantial amount (approx €10,000 and rising) for Barretstown charity.

The Festival couldn't have happened without sponsors, organisers, a track and drivers; so all classes really were central to it all happening. Most classes seemed to have bigger grids than normal so hopefully we were able to help with that by running the Vee Festival.

Thank you to the people within the classes that supported the Festival with programme ads and other forms of sponsorship.

We'd love to run another Festival next season and hopefully improved on this years spectacle.

    Ivan C
On behalf of the Festival Committee
    - Paul Heavey
    - John Downey
    - Cregor Elliott
    - Robbie Parks
    - Ivan Casey

A great weekend was had by all so thanks to everyone for participating (drivers, team crew, sponsors, fans, spectators, etc).

There was a huge amount of goodwill around the paddock all weekend and great to see families coming along. It'd be great to see another class hold a similar "festival" type weekend next season in addition to another Vee Festival... ITCC is probably the best suited class as they're really the only ones with grid sizes to make it worthwhile.

How fast would these cars go and what kind of motors do they use?

On Mondello National, they do about 100mph down the main straight and in Kirky about 115mph. That doesn't sound fast but they'll lap Mondello National faster than most road going (and a lot of race) Porsches, Ferraris, etc...

They use a blueprinted 1600cc air-cooled VW engine (twin port VW Beetle). Full details are available on www.formulavee.ie or send me a PM is you'd like to see them
    In person.
