    Hi all,

I will be starting the midwifery course as a mature student in TCD this September, and am really looking forward to it. However it is a long time since I left school and I am a little worried about the course work as in essays, assignment's ect. It's so long since I had to write an essay I really wouldn't know where to begin!! So I'm wondering do TCD hold a academic writing course for new entrants before the course begins, I know UCD have one in august for their new students which I heard is really helping when its comes to planning and writing essays and assignments later on, really hope I can get some help with this before starting the course.

All advice would be really appreciated.

I don't know about the midwifery course, but in science there wasn't really anything like that. However, there is a student learning centre available for all students, and they have advice on essay writing and run workshops. See their website here: http://student-learning.tcd.ie/undergraduate/topics/writing/

I don't believe that you can attend any of their workshops before you're registered on the course, but you should still be able to access the website and hopefully get some pointers there.

    Thanks Morgase,

I will have a look at that link, I know that academic writing is a big part of the course as there are lots of essays and assignments so could really do with some pointers before hand.
