Matt Scherer was pacemaker in New York.

"The pace setter did a good job, he was strong," Rudisha said in his post race press conference.

He destroyed the field in 1:41.54

The gap between him and the rest was absurd. This is the first time I've watched Diamond league and I've never seen an 800m like it before. There were two races out there, one for Rudisha and one for the rest of the field.

Pretty much becoming the norm for him in these races I am afraid. Great to see fast times but I wish there was someone to compete with him

I thought he was going to dip under the WR with 80m to go.

Normally when it comes to championship racing the 800m can turn into a bit of a lottery with favourites crashing out in the earlier rounds but you just can't see that happening with Rudisha. He's too far clear of the rest.

P.S. It's not a night for quick times either.

The fact that he is such a fast front runner who can take it out hard and fast in the lead right from the start is why I see him as unbeatable in London. I can't see a scenario where he is bunched up, blocked in and fighting to get position so he can unload. It's almost like he's time trialling when he runs. Like there is nobody else in the field.

My knowledge of the 800m is limited. Is Kaki likely to be his biggest threat? The field tonight didn't seem that strong. Is there anybody who can stick with him for a bit and maybe put him under pressure? It's oh so easy to mess up an 800m race.

Aman and Kaki would be his closest rival however he has shown in previous incidences that he can miss judge the rounds and has failed to make the finals previously.

Rudisha has proven he can run quick times in non pace maker races as proven in kenyan Trials with a 1.43 at Altitude at the Kenyan Trials

Wow, 2 laps and he wins by that distance. Crazy. The slo mo replay was brilliant. Expressionless the whole way and perfect technique all the way to the line.

average 800m race times dont seem to have changed much in 30yrs?
Afaik 1-43 has only been bettered 75 times in about 32years

Funnily enough when I looked at the following site two things stood out:

    http://www.diamondleague-paris.com/en/Live-StartlistsResults/Overview/800m-Women/

Snell and Gray still have Area records; 1962 and 1985 accordingly
