    Fine for cabra.

You could pick up cheaper outdoor options for around a tenner, but the aldi one appears to come with the other bits & pieces needed for fitting, so not too bad a deal I suppose.

Ok if you're fitting it yourself in the attic. It's a bit flimsy to stand up to outdoor use & I wouldn't expect an installer to want to fit it for you.

    thanks for your reply.
I may end up having to put it on the roof.

Gay Byrne and Ryan Tubridy have a lot to answer for. Can we get them on here to explain the workings of saorview:rolleyes:

You'd be better off getting a decent installer to take a look, rather than throwing money at one thing after another that doesn't work.

An 'expert' wouldn't think about recommending anything without some idea of what the signal conditions are like at your particular location.

    Thanks for reply....

what are the main differences between the two aerials?

The Aldi aerial would probably be seen as a 'high gain' type, the similar Argos item claims 'up to 15dB'. These are Yagi aerials & are generally better when tuned for a narrow frequency range rather than wideband use.

The other is a log-periodic type & claims 7 dBi gain (I would think the other one is dBi as well, dBd can also be quoted). These are a 'proper' wideband design with consistent gain across the entire band they cover, but they can't match the Yagi type for peak gain figures. They're a good choice in a decent signal area & larger versions with slightly more gain than this one are available.

I picked up the saorview channels tonight:D

I had to bring the aerial into the front bedroom, tv is in the back, but long term it wont be feasible.

I plan on putting the aerial in the attic tomorrow to see if it works.

Is there any reason it shouldn't ?

    thanks

Ah, good man Tatranska, you are learning fast, put it in the attic and try it out, if you can get Saorview in your front room then you should get it from your attic, but you are operating on a trial and error basis. If it works without breakup especially during heavy rain then that,s fine but if not then you will have to consider a chimney or similar installition, maybe with a better aerial.
    Good Luck.

This picks up Saorvierw indoors, and all it cost was 5 euro.:D

Connects straight into the back of the TV and I get Saorview just like that.

That's because there is sufficient signal available at the aerial location, an advantage the OP in this case does not have.

If fitting in attic you may need masthead amp, tiles, insulation etc will cut down signal strength.

    I've hit a glitch.

I was going to put it in the attic but realised that having no power up there is a problem and I don't want to run extension leads up in the attic.

It looks like I'll need to bite the bullet and get an aerial installed.

Does anyone know of a reputable installer without pointing me to the ISAA website ?

Yes, but it seems rather cheap, even for Lidl

I guessed earlier that this was going to be your next post Kassidy Rhythmic Petroleum, dont know whether to recommend that you get someone in to do it for you or whether to advise that you get a proper aerial and do it yourself, you have come from knowing very little (if you excuse my arrogance) to knowing how to recieve saorview, so the next move is up to you. dont put an indoor aerial in the attic but you can buy a proper aerial yourself and locate it in the attic, it should work from the info in your previous posts.
You could buy an aerial that is best suited for the transmitter that your signal is coming from (ask for advice) and put it in the attic and have the pleasure of knowing that you have achievied something or pay someone to do it for you, it,s really up to you.

You hit a glitch because the aerial you bought needs a power supply also. The one you initially linked to did not, and would have most likely worked in your attic. Advice: rebox and get a refund, then buy the other one. In addition, the first aerial you linked to will be fine if externally mounted. Our "bad weather" is never really that bad

As above you don't anything ellaborate.Buy the first one and stick it outside it's what they're designed for.

If that Aldi aerial is anything like the SLX one from Argos (it appears identical in the photo), it will be a flimsy piece of crap. The dipole & connection assembly is particularly weak, liable to become detached from the boom without some attention & not particularly waterproof either.

If OP is set on an outside aerial, something smaller & tidier looking would more than likely work at their location.

I recommend power In attic and aerial in attic. I rang my local dealer and they are mad busy but had plenty of advice. I just about got a digital signal from mt Leinster with a mast amplifier. I wanted to get rid of the mast amplifier and separate power supply for an all in one amp that will distribute to four tvs. As soon as I connected new amp (38 euro) I lost the signal. I told dealer and he said mount Leinster operate on band b and I needed a different aerial. The aerial cost 40 euro and looks similar to ALDI aerial in structure. It worked perfect. No climbing roofs / no weather rusting/ no wind issues/ no cabling corroding/ put in double socket and you can use it for attic diy or whatever . Oh btw by oct 24 mt Leinster maybe code A signal so do not throw away old aerial. code A has better transmission .

I can just see it, end mounted (with cradle in place, pointlessly) on its little loft mounting kit & the whole lot bolted to the chimney . . .

No maybe about it, Saorview will move to UHF channel 23 at switchover.

Again. The issue is been confused. He can get a signal in the bedroom all he needs is a simple outdoor ariel.

Get the refund for the one you purchased and buy this and this. Job done.

I didnt buy it in a Lidl supermarket and Ive being use it for around 3-4 months now and its perfect.

Nothing has come loose and nothing has broken or fallen off.

No need for me to run extra cables or drill holes into walls and mount brackets and ariels, this just sits on the window sill and give me crystal clear Saorview.

A fiver very well spent indeed.:D

If you mean television transmitters see the Saorview Coverage Checker - http://www.saorview.ie/make-the-switch/coverage-map/
