rev counter fading out on me!

    Hey guys,

Got an old Lancia Fulvia and everytime I start it up the rev counter works for maybe ten seconds the fades away to no response at all,

I've tried to track down a shorted wire or a bad earth but no luck

It is an electronic tachometer with ground, power and signal off the coil.

It sometimes will start responding weakly while driving around but I can't find any common factor that proceeds this fleeting rebirth.

Any ideas on tracking down the problem?

Most likely a solder joint has become lose inside or the electronic components are breaking down with age

I cracked it open and all the solder looked fresh a crack free, and I couldn't see any obviously burnt out components but I might see if I can get a replacemnet to see if its the unit,
