Car Door Damaged

    Hi
just want a bit of advice. My son a parked his car and came back to find drivers door severely damaged. There was a phone number left on his windscreen so he thought whoever damaged car was going to pay for costs of repair. He rang the number and asked are you the person who damaged my car? The response was, dont ever park your car there again and he hung up. My son thought it was hit by the mans car but on closer inspection the damage was caused by a few nice kicks. Now the problem is my son reckons as the man never admitted damaging it that he would be wasting Guards time, however I feel its worth going to the Garda station and reporting it.
My son because he works 69hrs a week feels it aint worth the hassle but I feel it is, even though the man never admitted liability.Would it be a difficult case do you think?

Where did he park it? If it was me I would try the Gardai, if that failed I would ring the guy constantly at all hours of the day and night seeking repair.

Where was it parked? Any CCTV around the area or anything?

definitely go to the guards. saying "dont ever park your car there again", thats pretty much saying he did it on purpose.

Urm, go to the Garda station with the guys phone number and report what happened would be the obvious route.

Any possibility of cctv where it happened?

Personally I don't see what your son has to loose by talking to the gardai about this. Although it might be somewhat tricky considering he doesn't who the person he called is.

thats a balls, was there a reason for this tone in the callers voice...

had the car been parked where it should not have been.

the cops sounds good, but if reading stuff on here about them i would be surprised if they did jack $hit about it.

    now....

with all the tech going nowadays when will it be possible to buy a device that tracks a mobile phone down to 10 feet.

yes he has nothing to lose exactly what I said, it was parked in Monkstown on a hill near the church. No cctv that we could see,he wasnt blocking any drive or anything as thats the 1st thing I asked him.He works close by in a well known restaurant and has problems parking due to his long hours.Doing my best to persuade him to report it :rolleyes:could I report it?And would it have to be the Monkstown Gardai? Or could I go to my own local ones?Either way if I can report it I would.
    Thanks

I appreciate what you are saying but whether or not he parked where he shouldn't have, doesn't give that person a right to severely damage a car or does it?

it'd be reasonable to assume that the car was inconveniencing someone.
Where the car was actually parked would tell a lot as to what happened, the car definitely wasn't parked outside the same house all the time or in someone's way, blocking a space that they consider theirs.

If your son keeps an eye out and see who parks in that spot now, it could tell a lot.

aye, stick up a cctv camera somewhere and do a private eye job yourself.

i always say if you need anything done you better get it done yourself.

Maybe ring the number again and record the call?

The person would hardly have given their actual number though woud they?

Doesnt matter if he parked it on someones drive, they should have gone to the guards if they had a problem.
i'd be going to them if i was you. sounds like someone has a problem with him parking there and it may happen again.

    @OP
did you try to google the number? using different formats like "08xxxxxxx"
    "08x-xxx-xx-xx", etc?

uncle google is very smart beast and if scumbag's number was used on the internet like in an advert to sell some stuff - gumtree, donedeal, etc You can easily have that person in your hands..
    Good luck

Here is my thought, who ever left the note with their number on it, is either the guilty party or saw something. The fact he said to your son do not park there are again states that he done it.

Go to the Guards and give them the number and what what said to your son, no one has any right to damage other peoples property.

I doubt that the Guards will do anything.

Ring the number, but insert a 5 after 08x. So if number is 08x xxx xxxx, dial 08x5 xxx xxxx.
This will bring you into voicemail of that phone.
You will have to press the # button whilst voicemail message is being played, do not let it go to after the beep, otherwise there will be a record of you having left a message.
It will ask you for a password.
Try 1234 and 0000, the default password on most voicemail inboxes.
This will enable you to listen to any other messages left on that phone.

You know people have been prosecuted for that right?

If the OP cant get a result by the Gardai(which I would find weird), then I would simply sign up the guys number for every advert, adult dating site(gay and straight) and free offer going. Saying he is a 20 year old Brazilian looking for some fun times with a older man can get very interesting. Especially if you say ring between 11pm and 3am.

no it doesn't but scumbags are scumbags.

Yes and some are not the sharpest tools in the box. How do they think they will get away with that after almost admitting it.

TBH I think the OP is very lucky to have the scumbag kindly leave their number on the car, having that happen with no trace to who caused it is alot worse IMO.

Rather than trying to hack his voicemail, just do the trick with the digit 5 to get straight through to his voicemail...he may say, you have reached the voicemail of <<firstname>><<surname>> and then you have his name

    Now that's a good idea.
But I also like signing him up for every magazine and ad going.

Having said that, I doubt he would have left his name on his voicemail.
If I where to kick in someone's door and leave my number, it would be with a phone and sim that isn't registered, purchased with cash and untraceable to my name, we can assume that's the case here.
Or that it's just a scumbag who doesn't care one iota if he's caught, since it's just one more offense on his rapsheet and most likely a fine (which he won't pay) and a suspended sentence. If he shows up in court to start with.
The law only works on law-abiding people, but not on people who will ignore any warning, fine, jail sentence, because their brain cannot make the connection between their behavior and the punishment doled out to them.
They're just amazed how often they get put away for no reason on a state sponsored holiday with free food and accommodation where they get to meet all their friends and family.

Monkstown isnt exactly scumbag central, its probably some curtain twitching crazy oul lad. Id get onto the guards straight away.

But i would try to find a connection between the number and eye for eye. See how you like your door been put in.

I think you are giving the door kicker way too much credit. If your stupid enough to start kicking a door on a public street and leave a note, your stupid enough to leave your number on it.

Strange as it may seem, that's actually how they did most of their hacking. All Vodafone voicemails are by default set to 0000.

not any more, they required everyone to change them a few months ago.

Monkstown's swarming with wardens, if he'd parked where he shouldn't then he'd probably have picked up a ticket. Would you have any idea from where he parked of who might have been likely to do it?
