I think it's quite good, I just got opel corsa C 2001 1.2L. I am learner as well and it's my first car.

There a few different models, I'm a fan of the the three cylinder model, many mechanics would disagree:)
What a great car, don't be put off.

will be looking at 2003 1L .my brother in law says they mite not be as reliable as mirca would be.

What your budget ? Might be worth looking at a Fiesta ? Personally I'm not a fan of the Opel Corsa other then the current model.

my budget is bout 1,500 to 2000.only looking at 1L cars.esayier to tax

Well if your budget has a range from 1500 up to 2000 then wheres the problem with getting something over a 1.0L if you could pick up something decent for 1500 and the rest on the tax ?

    http://www.carsireland.ie/detail.php?ad_id=810394&r=s.php%3Fm%3D26%26o%3D252%26d%3D1%26e%3D2000%26g%3D0%26z%3D-8

Priced at 1890. If you haggled you could have it for 1500.

Heres a Corsa in your price range if your only staying at 1.0L. And here's another as well.

I think Corsa's are great little cars! I'm on my second one :)

Cheap to run, reliable - the only thing is that the gears and pedals in the older models are heavier to handle than most learners are used to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,157 ✭✭✭✭Alanstrainor

I wouldn't be mad on them being honest.

And tbh, the difference between a 1.0 and a 1.3 in tax is around 100~, which over a year is very little at all.

ive asked people i know what they think.my cousin had corsa for her first.a good few yrs ago no problems so my aunt told me.and a older lady had one bout 13 yrs ago no problems.il see what brother in law thinks when he drives it.

    just looking:)
looked at site where i saw it says sold.said i was just going to have look at it.so if i dont buy it.it will be redvertised saying do to timewaster.
corsa wud 200 cheaper to insure than a mirca both 1l:confused:,insurance qoute from champion

How old are you and how much is insurance on it ? Male or Female ?

If your around my age and your quote is decent then I might give Champion a ring myself as I'm shopping for insurance at the moment too.

Anyway insurance isn't really done on engine size contrary to popular belief in this country. Might be the same if not cheaper to insure certain 1.4 cars and even 1.6's then 1.0's. But seeming as tax is your concern here, this would be irrelevant to you.

In Champion's eyes Micra's are probably higher risk, possibly because a lot of young people drive them as their first car and so on.

Other then being told by other people that Corsa's are good cars is there anything else that you would be interested in ?

My first car was a 1 lt corsa. Tax was 48e every 3 months and it ran on the sniff of petrol. Was a great car to start off in and I never had any issues other than a snapped clutch cable .

Wouldn't worry too much about it :)

If your willing to travel to Dublin ( I assume your in the midlands) then that green Corsa I posted a link to earlier might be worth a look.

Just saw there that one is now sold.

Here's something that might be for you.

Just stay away from citreon,Daewoo, peugeots and renaults. Id go with a Micra, corsa, astra hatchback(1.1L),Punto(newer model). Far more reliable than the ones above that cost a fortune to fix.

I'd suggest going for a Toyota Yaris 1.0L instead. You'll pay a little more than an equivalent Corsa, but the extra money will buy you more peace of mind and reliability. The Yaris is also nice to drive and very economical and perfect for young lady drivers with light pedals. It's also one of the few small cars that will take 3 child seats in the back due to it's extra width. Seat Height & driving position is also high which makes it easier to get in and out of and gives you a more commanding position over other traffic.

Please can someone tell me how good or bad OPEL CORSA 1 Litre engine is.

    Is it good on fuel?
Does it give too much problems?
Is better than NISSAN MICRA ?
Thanks hope to get a better answer and advice from your all.

Is the 1.0L engine in the Corsa better then the 1.0L in a Micra (although what Micra are we talking about here) ? Not a chance. In fact the Micra engine is up there as been one of the best small engine cars out there. The Corsa has only 3 cylinders whereas the Micra has 4 and is a 16v.

Forget the corsa they are a horrible useless unreliable piece of crap.Sorry to any corsa owners out there.I bought one a couple of years ago with 12k on the clock,it broke down 15 times in 2 years with a combination of problems from engine management issues to exhaust(catalytic converter),wheel bearings, excessive oil consumption and a clutch replacement before there was 50k on it!! Added to that it was grossly underpowered.I absolutely hated it.

Maybe you just got a bad car? Or it wasnt looked after by previous owners?

Anyhoo, I was interested in a Corsa as a first car, seen a few I liked, but, they didnt really hack it on personal inspection. Seen one then on Donedeal that looked the part, sounded good, had arranged to meet the owner, but then I figured I'd spend a few euro and do one of those online car checks.

The Corsa was a 00 but had 10 previous owners it seems, if I had of bought it I'd be number 11!!!! I might expect 5 or 6 owners for that year (taking into account that it may have been in the ownership of a garage on a few occasions) but, 10 owners suggests people werent happy with it and were passing it on!! Rang the owner and cancelled the viewing!

Its worth spending a few euro if you're genuinely interested in a motor, of course the above is no reflection on a Corsa, I'd have got one if a nice one turned up; preferably a two door version, those 4 door ones look horrid!!! :o

Got a '98 Starlet in the end, crackin' little car! :D

You must have just got very unlucky, I learnt in an 03 corsa, and kept it for 2 years after passing test. Just over 100k when I got it, 125k when I sold it on.

Only thing I changed or replaced on it was the the oil at each service, the tyres, one coil, 2 CV boots, and the gear and wiper linkage. Might sound like a lot, but considering the age, and the milelage, didn't think I did so bad.
