New Car and Tax

    hi guys, quick question:

Just bought a used car from a dealer and the tax is out since january 2012. however, i am only getting the car tomorrow evening after everything is done on it before delivery.

    my question is:

how do i get it taxed?

    1. do i wait for the logbook and drive without tax?

    2. dont think i would make it to a motortax office before they close tomorrow, as i am sure there will be delays getting the car.

    3. the car wont be accessible tomorrow morning, as it is in the shop getting repaired, so i cant get to the old tax disc - to go and tax it.

    4. is there a way to either drive without the tax, saying you are waiting for the logbook at the weekend or

    5. is there a way to pay the tax on motortax.ie immediately, so i could print something out showing ive paid (receipt)? does the pin retrieval come back immediately to you?bearing in mind the car is not yet in my name as i havent sent the logbook yet (Which i am getting tomorrow).

thanks for helping, this is worrying me, as we are moving house this weekend and the jeep would be dead handy to use.

Last time this happened to me I took the log book filled out from the dealer to the motor tax office and they let me tax it there. They sent off the log book to be changed to my name & I left with the tax disc.
