I'm looking to buy a guitar to learn to play on. I've been thinking about getting the epiphone dr100. Any reviews I have found seem to be ok but just wondered if anybody here has one and what they thoughts on it are? I'm just looking for something to learn on and have a fairly limited budget. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I've never played a DR100, but I DID have an Epi acoustic for years and I loved it.

    BUT

    that is REALLY inexpensive.

for the same money USED you'll get much more guitar.

don't fall into the "I'm only beginning so any old poo of a guitar will do" trap.

if you have a piece of junk you are much less likely to stick with it. buy the best (not necessarally the most expensive) guitar you can possibly afford.

    regardless of your ability.

I have played one recently and was disappointed with the tone, it was very flat like a lot of bottom of the range guitars from big names. That said, it was well set up and was easy to play - which may be important to you at this stage.

As the post above says, also consider something second hand. The Yamaha base range are solid guitars, and if a full acoustic Takamine comes up in good nick, snap it up.

Went shopping last year with my 14 year old son who wanted to buy an acoustic guitar. We tried out most acoustics for under €200. He decided that the best sounding model for him, was a Cort acoustic in Guitar centre for about €180. He originaly had his eye on the DR100.
He has lavished 100's of hours since then in playing this guitar and has come on in leaps and bounds. Unfortunately he has a predeliction for Korean pop:confused:

Where i am heading with this is play as many guitars as you can and buy the one you think sounds best.

When you buy your next guitar, you will be more informed as to what you like or don't like.
