    Hi

I have been offered a new job that comes with a Company car, I had thought I would be sent to a garage to buy with Company cheque and could negotiate a deal on them to buy/take a trade in on my old car. It turns out though the car will be purchased through Leaseplan. How can I offload my old car. For personal reasons I really do not want to go the private sale route (I live on my own and would be nervous going out in the car with total strangers!) As I have not yet started in the job I am reluctant to ask too many questions or rock the boat but does anyone know do leaseplan "buy" or trade in cars giving me back a cheque for its value

    Tks

As far as I know Leasing companies do not take trade in etc of if they do it will be for some derisirory amount way less than the car is actually worth. It's not their business, leasing new cars is.

Some garages promise to buy cars for cash. Usually cowboys who again will rip you off.

Best bet is to wait until you are started the job and see what car they are offering and you can better assess your position.

Reality is most used cars are very easily and safely sold privately if you keep to a few simple rules

LP will take your car off you, but it will be a trade value, not retail.

They'll probably get it underwritten by one of many traders that buy ex lease cars from them and just write you a cheque.

Thanks for replies would rather shift it through LP if amount anyway acceptable, I can't afford to keep both due to bik payment and to keep up insurance on older one. Also dread thoughts of private sale, will check out further will prob be gutted by any offer they make but will have to consider

    Ta again

Put up the details of the car here, some of us should be ble to give you a ball park figure of what you might expect.

Nobody "enjoys" selling a car privately, buts it's a neccesarily evil unfortunately.
