    Hey,

A friend of mine has just recieved an offer for the 3 year criminal justice course in WIT. She's applying as a mature student and it is her 5th choice on the CAO and she's not sure if it's what she wants to do. She is very interested in criminal psychology and did a year on it in Ballsbridge but she intended to do Physchology and then when finishing that, head in the criminal phychology direction but would like to have more then that as an option when she finishes, in case she decides to go in a different direction. There's also the prospect of getting a job afterwards. Criminal Justice seems like it wouldn't have a huge amount of job prospects afterwards and you would be forced into the one area of which there may be nothing available.

As this may be her only viable option for college this year with her first 4 choices not getting offers, she'd like to gather as much info on the course as possible and determine if she should try again next year for phychology or is this broad enough to offer more options then initially seems?

Is there anyone who has either finished this course or is studying in it currently that could give some extra clarity on how the course is, what job prospects there are and any other information that may be helpful?

    Thanks a mil

I know 6 or 7 people well who are doing it who pretty much all want to be guards! I'd say a lot in the course would be there for that.

    Howdy.

I did that course a few years ago but im coming back to finish it off this year.. It is based on the gaurds, but the best way to descirbe is its like an arts degree but its concentrating on Law, Criminology & Psychology. I thought it was an excellent course, it got me a job and now im getting time off to head back and finish it... The two course leaders are Walter O'Leary & Sinead Connelly, I can give you their email addresses if needed...
    You can PM me whenever!!

Dont. The majority of the jobs available from this course is in the public sector and right now, getting into this sector is basically impossible. Garda are a clOsed shop as is the correctional service and probation. There is at least 4 of us that graduated from the course last year emigrating to Canada to find work...
