Trying to sell a 2010 7seater but having problems

    Hi there,

Heading to Oz in August and trying to sell our 7 seater however we have not received a single call so far and it's been 12 days.

Guess the reason I am posting here is to see if there are any suggestions as to how to shift it. We need the money as our spending money in Oz for when we get over.

A few things I have tried are:

Advertising through the normal channels: websites and local paper = nothing!
The car is excellent, low mileage and a new model. Wondering now if I should start looking into local car sales garages but afraid they will give me a very bad price.

    Any ideas?

We need a link. Pricing is key.

Can I provide a link without getting a ban?

    Ok here is the ad:

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/3516877

I think I have priced it very fair to be honest.

    many thanks folks.

have to be fair, the ad and the photos are fairly spot on.

Pricing seems reasonable, Might be some movement on that. But i would imagine that the market isnt exactly mobile during the summer for this type of vehicle.

Familys either have no money or are saving for holidays. Its only up 2 weeks you could be another 3 weeks until to get any contact.

    best of luck

A quick check on Carzone says I can buy one off a dealer with a 12 month comprehensive warranty for that money.

Not with your low mileage, but still.

Yeah thanks guys, so ride it out a bit longer?

Haven't gone with carzone yet though, might be worth a punt, what ya reckon?

You're competing with the dealers really, as a previous poster said, same car available from a dealer with a 12 month warranty. That's what you're up against.
It depends how quickly you need to shift it.

Yeah, people looking for an as-new car may look in carzone, it's got a better search, more dealers and less mislabelled old tat than Donedeal.

As mentioned already you can get a 2010 from a dealer and warranty for less. Pricing seems at least €2K to high for a private sale.

I find all the capitals to be aggressive and more difficult to read.

Yeah thanks, will change it to lower case.

I wonder if location is an important factor as well?

It's funny because people do comment a lot about the car and say how nice it is especially older people with grand kids etc.

How much would a warranty extension cost for another year (if possible)?

If you could get another year's warranty then you would be able to easily compete with the dealers and it would be an even bigger guarantee that the car is up to scratch.

Also, for such a new car you shouldn't use DoneDeal because it's mostly used for cars under €5000 or the likes.

Carzone would be your best bet methinks. And if you stick it up on Carzone, beware of the scam emails that often come up.

Won't there still be the balance of the manufacturer's warranty on a 2010 car? The same car from a dealer won't get anything better AFAIK, bar a valeting.

    "Genuine reason for sale"

This always makes me wonder. Surely the only reason you want to sell it is because you want to get rid of it. End of. Chancers are just too fond of this phrase, like the "one careful lady owner" kind of thing.

    IMO.

Putting ", honest" after it will work. Honest.

OP - is shipping it to Oz out of the question (there might be an issue with parts, though!)?

Could be wrong but I'd imagine it was a 2 year warranty?

The dealer could offer 10 years warranty if they want and are willing to stand over it. I'd be expecting at least a year from the dealer. We got 2 years warranty on a 3 year old Scenic in 08.

I was looking at 7-seaters in 2010, Ford (and most other brands) had a 2-year warranty, Nissan and Peugot had 3 years (iirc) and Renault had 5 years.

Take a look at this PDF and you'll see it's likely to cost €1000s to import into Australia.
It's probably cheaper and easier to sell it here and buy a car out there.

Agree. OP that is the reason your car is not selling. Most people given the choice will buy from a main dealer esp when spending €15k plus. To compete with dealers you need to price it well beneath them. They are offering more than the private seller to most people i.e. peace of mind/trade in/reputation/warranty/customer service.

You need to price it as keen as you can. Fine car by the way.

Lol! changed it again to say like new instead of "genuine reason for sale"

Need the money from the car sale to live in oz before I start work. Would love to take it down there otherwise! Alas have I sell it even though it's the best car we have ever owned. Say what you want about peugeout's but they are brilliant. We were sceptical before we bought it but never had a better car. The French just get the family thing (we have 3 kids).
