On my mk1 Focus I want to clean the egr, now i went to attemp it a few weeks ago and it is a very complicated procedure, it looks like the whole rear monifold has to come off and getting around it is very tight, so without having to preform such an operation is there a cleaner just to spray direct into it? is card cleaner the same thing or or these cleaners any use?

I've heard of good stuff from using wynns egr cleaner. Try your motor factors.

Carb(I presume you mean) cleaner wouldn't get the build up from and EGR off. The problem is that without stripping it, you risk anything that you do remove engine up down in the inlet manifold.

There is an EGR cleaner you can get but I've never tried it. I had my EGR/intake pipes soaking in oven cleaner for about an hour before the build up became any way easy to remove fully.

Blank it of job done, pointless things better MPG and the only downside is a bit more pollution.

I cleaned my EGR valve and pipe recently. I had to take out half of the engine to get at them. When I finally got them both out, I used oven cleaner to soften the carbon. It takes a good bit of scrubbing to get rid of it so I really don't think that you'll make any difference by just spraying stuff into it.

Carb cleaner just turns the stuff in the EGR to a gooey paste so you scrape it out with a stick and toothbrush. It took me a full can to do mine. I'd imagine the EGR cleaner would only do something similar and would have to be used with the EGR takin off and sitting in a bucket. Even if it says otherwise I still wouldn't use it.

Sorry yeah I meant carb cleaner! Have you ever cleaned an egr on a focus before? i looks like it could end up being some operation or is straight forward enough?

Maybe a silly question but what oven cleaner do you use? never cleaned one before tbh but i saw a mr muscle spray foam advertised on telly last night would that do or do you use an industrial strenght one?
