Volvo S40

Hi. Just a bit of advise here. I bought my Volvo S40 last year from Right Price Cars. So far so good, except its a goozler when it comes to unleaded! It is a 09 car. They advised me that I should get it serviced after 15,000k driven. However the cars system has been indicating for the last few months "book car for service, cars requires servicing & service overdue". and I am not near the 15,000k required to be driven. If anybody has any experience with Volvos should I get it serviced immediately or should I wait until when the car dealer told me go. Hope I explained this ok! Cheers.

    What the engine size?
I had a 1.8 Flexi fuel back in 08. It had a service interval of only 10,000KM (CRAZY!!.)

You should be good for 20,000km between services. As far as I know the engine is the same as in the Ford Focus. Ford only require a service every 20,000km. Volvo stipulate the 15,000km. (For warranty etc)

The flexi fuel was also a THIRSTY motor. Had to get rid of it for a diesel in the end.

That message is linked to the calender and will come up every 12 months. You can switch it off, google for directions.

I've got the older model s40, the service indicator comes up at the recommended interval both in terms of mileage AND age, whichever comes first. You can turn off the warning yourself by clicking a few buttons, usually just after turning on the car.

I've only driven around 6,000 miles in the last year, but I'd still do a basic service (oil + filter change) on the year interval to keep it smooth.

1.8 Flexifuel requires full service every 20,000 kms and only needs oil and filter on the 10,000 kms interval, regular 1.8 petrol is every 20,000 kms.

    To reset service light.

Lifted from the volvo owners site:

    Ensure all doors are closed

Turn ignition key to Position 1

Press and hold reset button [bottom left]

Immediately turn ignition key to Position 11 [within 2 seconds]

Keep the reset button depressed until service message has been reset.

A yellow warning light will illuminate, [large yellow info icon],
when it is time to release the button.

Release reset button within 4 seconds - there will be an audible
signal when the reset is complete.

If the reset button is not released within 4 seconds, the service
    level indicator will not reset.

It works because i reset my own a few months ago.

Hi guys, piggybacking one this thread wondering if you could help me out

looking at a few volvo s40 bifuels 1.8 se , low mileage 30,000 miles , €10,500- 11,000, anyone any experiences of this model...

Seems to be very reasonable should I be worried

asked mechanic last week and he wasn't keen on them, diesel version is about 3k more for similar spec ,higher mileage .

Is there transmission issues etc, a degradation of consumption moving from petrol bifuel in two tanks ? Not too much online

    any help appreciated .
