Hi, looking to replace the standard issue multiroom hd box (non recordable) supplied by sky for a 2nd hand sky+ hd box for my multiroom. I have heard that not all sky+ hd boxes can be used for multiroom is this true (something to do with rf out).

Is there any other compatability issues i need to be aware of before i go looking for a 2nd hand sky+ HD box (age of box, manufacturer, model, etc)

    Thx for any help
    D

In your second room there would only be one satellite in cable. To use another record box you need to run another cable so you can use the record feature. Go for the newest box you can the old generations had alot of issues. Also sky have said but I dont believe the box is paid to your viewing card so you might have issues there. Someone else might know more

I have 2 cables run to both boxes, I was already using 2 of the old white sky+ boxes before i upgraded to the hd box. I know i could use one of the old white boxes but would rather the black hd sky+ box with the new epg and the bigger recording capacity. I'm going to start looking for 2nd hand hd sky+ but heard somewhere not all boxes can be used for multiroom.

    thx

I had a standard HD box not + given when I ordered multiroom,, got a SKY+ HD box in adverts and was able to use it to replace the standard box, had to contact Sky via chat to pair the viewing card to the new SKY+ HD so I could record, pause, etc that was done while on the chat with the SKY rep, only need account number, viewing card number and some details from the box.

Also did the same for a friend that had an old Sky box, got them the same box as mine and he is now able to use the Pause, record, etc.

RF-out is nothing to do with multiroom as Sky would define it. RF-out, if you're not already aware, provides a UHF analogue copy of the channel the box is tuned to & this can be viewed via the analogue tuner of a tv in another room.

The non-recording box you are using is probably one of those that lack this feature. As mentioned above, getting the card paired to the box is likely to be your only issue.
