Article says cost for debit cards will be included.
They have to warn you up front about credit card charge, but won't add it on until the end, so no change there.
No use in Ireland because they don't accept payment by Laser card.
I did here a rumour that Visa debit was replacing Laser though - anyone managed to pay with that?

Visa debit is coming either this or next year afaik.

That's Debit Cards to be included, not Credit Card (unless I read the article wrong) so will still have to drill into the booking process before you know the final cost if paying by Cr Card.

    Not a bargain alert...

And laser is being replaced with visa / mastercard debit. Visa Debit cards are available the past 4 months. All BOI customers will have them by September, I got mine 3 weeks ago.

I've had a visa debit the past few years with Ulster Bank (Great bank to be with of course)... But when I paid with it I thought was being charged the same as a credit card €6 per flight? (not sure as hadn't used it in years as I was using a prepaid mastercard to avoid fees and haven't booked since they reduced the only option no fees to their own debit card)

AIB start the Visa debit rollout this September, PTSB/BoI have already started.

Are you with BOI? Do you know if they are replacing current laser cards or do I have to wait until my current one runs out to get the mastercard debit one?

I'm with BOI and I got a new card in Jan ... was a regular laser card so not sure how the roll-over is occurring ...

    http://www.ryanair.com/en/news/ryanair-s-cash-passport-card-delivers-huge-savings-in-ireland-from-today

This seems to be only way of now avoiding the 'admin' fees. Sounds convoluted but probably slightly less convoluted than buying prepaid master cards.

Seems to work like this. You purchase an amount of credit. minimum amount €175. You pay an admin fee of €10. That gives you an extra €10 towards your credit. Ryanair probably profit from the unused amounts that cannot be used.

Any one any experience of using the Ryanair passport? Can you just see what price your flights will be and purchase that amount of credit minus €10 and use it straight away not leaving any unused amount?

i never managed to sign up for it, it usually gives a error on the last step.

There´s a fairly sneaky way of avoiding charges on Ryanair. The Mastercard additional charge is 12 euro per person. The Gift voucher surcharge is 0.00, but the admin fee of buying a gift voucher is 6.00.

Vouchers are only sold in 25 euro amounts, but if you check the price before you buy you can halve your admin fee.

Nothing better than pulling thier leg for a change...

    ;)

Can multiple gift vouchers be used on one tranasaction? And does the full amount have to be used? Can you use some of the voucher for one flight and the rest for another?

A maximum of 4 vouchers can be used to purchase a Ryanair flight. Unfortunately, you will not get a refund on the balance. If the flight costs more, the remaining balance must by paid by credit/debit card. Vouchers must be used within 12 months of issue.

hmm so if the flights are close to a multiple of €25 it could work! Least it's an option... that ryan air card seems like a lot of hassle!

Thanks sjms, seems you're right - guess I hadn't tried to do it in the last few years http://www.ryanair.com/en/news/ryanair-to-accept-laser-card-payments

Ryanair still don't list Laser in their accepted forms of payment for some reason http://www.ryanair.com/ie/questions/how-can-i-pay-for-my-flights

They replaced my laser card with a Visa Debit card about a month ago (the laser was due to expire).

    Sorry for off topic.

Presumably if you have to pay the balance by credit card, even if its just 1c, you will get hit with a further credit card fee...?

    Yes, I imagaine you would.

I got one of the Ryanair Cash Passport and very happy with it. The online registration didn't work so did it via email, took a bit longer but grand now.

Have used this method on at least 3 occasions. flights usually coming to 47/48 add the SMS for 1.50 and u pay 56 for 50 euro voucher. The only caution I would give is that it can take 30 hrs for the transaction to show up so not recommended if you are a worrier

That's actually pretty useful if there are two or more people making a return journey. Thanks.

They are replacing all laser cards. I got a Visa Debit card a couple of weeks ago and my Laser card had an expiry date of 2013. You should have one in the coming weeks.
