Can anyone tell me what the average mileage is for a year. I have a 12 civic since last week in March and today i have 10,600km on the clock. I'm thinking this is well above average and i am also convinced there is something wrong with the clock when i look back at the driving i've done

Average mileage per year is 10-12k miles.
You have done 6.5k miles since the end of March, so you are looking at approx. 460 miles a week. Why do you think you haven't done that sort of mileage and the odometer is acting up?

Test the clock - note the odo reading, drive a known distance, and see if the figures add up.

I have the previous civic to yours and do 30K+ a year

Was it a demo car before you had it ? Already miles on it before you ?

If not you could be looking at kms or indeed faulty odo

Do you know how much have you spent on petrol/diesel?

€320 in may and €381 in june

€320 in may and €381 in june

So ~4 tanks in May and 5 in June.

If it's a diesel assume 800km per tank meaning 3200 in May, 4000 in june giving 7200. If April was similar then Bob's your mothers brother.

Unfortunately petrol. Does that make much difference.

That was very approximate with zero knowledge of mpg, fuel.

To be honest you really need to give details of your daily commute. Or as another poster has said measure it over a known distance. I would be very suprised if the odometer was out.

The "average mileage" in your question is irrelevant - it's your mileage you need to work out!

Use Google Maps to estimate your daily commute and see if that adds up, or drive the car a known distance (using a GPS) and compare odo readings. If, as your user name suggests, you're commuting from Wickla to Dublin you could easily be doing the guts of 100 miles a day.

I've done just short of 10k kms since the start of the year which is a lot considering I barely move the car Monday to Friday. Its basically all on driving back to Galway for weekends (from Cork) and what ever driving I do over the weekend. I don't even go back every weekend so its amazing how fast it adds up really.

Any chance your last car have an Odometer in Miles and now you are looking at KM, showing a 1.6x larger number.
What mileage was on it in March?

What is your commute? What type of driving have you done?

You're looking at about 40k km or 25k miles a year give or take. It's most certainly not beyond the realms of impossibility.

I commute to south dublin 4 days a week and back. Not actually sure of mileage.

I'm going on the basis of my last car. Bought in janurary 2007 new and sold in march 2012. It had167,000 km on it.

    Right - that's about 5.25 years. Or about 32k km a year. Or 611km a week.

    You've had the car 15 weeks so 15 x 611km is 9165km.

Now in that time I'm sure there were holiday periods where the car may not have been used meaning the weeks it was used the car would equate to a higher than average weekly mileage making the 10600km entirely plausable.

That is if you actually bother to think about it realistically.
