    Hi all,

Ran a cartell report on a car I'm interested in. The car is on a 05 Dublin reg now but was imported from northern Ireland, previous reg MJZ 3905.

Here is where it gets interesting, on the previous plate info there is a cat D recorded against a previous plate, the previous plate is showing against a landcruiser ??? See below
    Everything else seems to checkout.

Does anyone have any idea how this can happen? I'm not too familar with cartell reports as I havn't bought a car in a while.

    Thanks,
    Neil.

The way I read it is that the previous plate could have been a private plate that the owner previously transfered from a Landcruiser that had Cat D (repairable) damage. I could be wrong though.

Ok, that plate is now showing on a BMW X5 according to HPI UK.

It sounds like it is a private plate which would transfer from the old car to the new car everytime it's owner changed cars. The old car would then get it's old reg plate back afaik.

That plate is from 1989 or something.

E is from 87 / 88. Could have been fitted to any later car though.
This needs further Investigation as there are various scams that involve hiding history through plate change and export.

What way can it be investigated?

Perhaps contact one of the UK car check companies to try to establish what car the damage record relates to. The damage might even be before 2005 putting you in the clear.
