Howdy folks, got myself a new motor and want to keep the paintwork nice.

Whats the best way ? What products should I use ?

I have seen some vids where it says to clay even a new car, wont hurt i assume ? Then what do i apply ? Wax ? tbh, never heard of it untill i started reading into the detailing, all I ever used before was a car polish, raindance or something like that applied by hand after a good wash.

Car wash is out of the question I assume ? Even the soft cloth ? It has to be done by hand to guarantee a nice finish ?

Very first thing on your list should be two buckets and a good wash mitt.
If you've read a fair bit about detailing, you'll have come across the "Two Bucket Method"...........use it! ;)

I would advice you to clay the car. Chances are it was sitting in some yard for some time, so it will be contaminated in some way. Clay will remove this contamination and leave a good surface for your protection (wax / sealant) to bond to.

After that its a matter of what protection you want, either wax or sealant. Both have their positives and negatives, and the one you choose will depend on wha colour your car is and what you want to get out of the protection - be it durability of the protection, how well it looks, etc.

Once the car is fully protected, its a matter of maintaining the finish - so thats using the Two Bucket Method, a good wash mitt and a good shampoo; one that is a good lubricant and wax safe or pH neutral. Also, highly recommended is a good microfiber drying towel.

Check out Detailing Republic for more tips and advice! There's a good few guys from here on there too ;)
