How much should I expect to pay for this work?

    Hi,

It's been recommended to me by a dentist to get a six piece bridge to cover a missing front tooth (it's loose now, but it will come out - it's been crowned for the past 14 years) and to fix a crooked side tooth.

How much should I expect to pay for this procedure if good practice and materials (?) are used?

    Thanks,

    Rebecca

6 piece bridge...thats a very long bridge and would replace 3-4 missing teeth, are you sure its not a 3 unit bridge?

Sorry, let me explain a little more.

Three of my wisdom teeth came in and shifted other teeth, so now I have an overbite in my front two teeth which has caused them to loosen because the bottom teeth are banging in behind them.

So the six piece bridge will give me my Hollywood smile, which is what I want. That's the reason for the six piece bridge, basically in the long run three teeth need to be fixed. One will be missing, one needs to be corrected, and one is slightly crooked.

Sound like a really terrible treatment plan, why bridge 6 teeth, is it not some crowns and a bridge. Your top teeth didn't loosen because of your bite thats stupid if you were told that, you more than likely have some gum disease....this sounds really dodgy to me, seek a second opinion.

For top notch work expect to pay around 800-1200 a tooth. BTW if there are 3 teeth on a bridge its a 3 unit bridge. Post a pic of your teeth....

The understanding I got from the dentist is that they are zirconia crowns, they showed me samples. Three teeth beside each other need to be fixed properly, hence the six.

I got three different opinions from three different dentists. One was braces, one was one implant now and eventually three implants altogether, and the other was crown/bridge work.

The last dentist I saw told me I had an overbite, but I hadn't one before my wisdom teeth came in. I used to have perfect teeth once!

No thats a 3 unit bridge, a 6 unit bridge has 6 teeth joined together. Have you seen a prosthetic specialist yet (prosthodontist)? Have you received detailed written treatment plans and costings (if so you would know the exact costs)? You need to know what your getting done, and the widely varied treatment plans make me very worried your not seeing the correct people. Zirconia, metal whatever thats not important whats important is who is doing the job especially your front teeth.

if the price is in the thousands, which it might be I have the number for a super dentist practice in belfast where I am from and they are about 80% cheaper than the dublin prices I was quoted for work I had to have done

    thanks paddy

I'm really stumped here. If you were getting a facelift, a knee replacement, breast implants.....would you opt for the cheapest quote(by thousands as opposed to hundreds), here or abroad?
Any work to teeth cannot be undone, & value comes down to cost per year of service, not simply initial cost. Choose as carefully as you would any medical procedure, because there's no going back.

Point one, we shouldn't be engaging in diagnosis here. Charter states that this forum is not really for discussing costs either. We've slipped into some bad habits in the recent past.

Point two, wisdom teeth do not cause you to suddenly develop an overbite. It sounds like you may have come to this conclusion yourself or maybe were advised this by your dentist. It's just not correct.

Point three, you don't seem to understand fully the reasons why you are having treatment, why one treatment might be better than another or possibly you're not communicating it very well here. If its the former, you should not be consenting to any treatment right now. If it's the latter then we can't help you anyway. (and we shouldn't as we really don't engage in diagnosis and treatment planning here).

As Fitz said, loose teeth suggest other more serious issues that would need to be addressed before engaging in any advanced treatment such as bridging or implants as you may find your new expensive dentistry not lasting as long as you might like.

My advice, try and see a prosthodontist. They are the treatment planning Jedi (at least Fitz has convinced me of this with his mind tricks)
