I'm interested in trying out a single speed bike. It would be for commuting around London which is mostly flat - I find myself in the top gear or two the whole time, so the rest are just excess weight and maintenence to me!

I tried one today, but I was spinning like a mad thing! I know it's supposed to be better for your pedalling but honestly I couldn't build up any speed, and the chap in the shop, though very helpful, didn't really have anything with a higher ratio that I could try.

I'm looking to test ride a bunch of differently set up single speeds to get a feel for the different ratios and try to determine what might be best for me.

Could anyone recommend a shop in Dublin where they might have a good selection?

Gear ratios are very easily changed on a fg or ss.

'On track' on cook street would have a good selection and give you good advice.

Just ride your geared bike around in one gear until you've found the right one then buy a bike with equivalent gearing.

you get used to it after a couple of weeks, a higher cadence is better for the knees especially if you cycle in city traffic. it does feel odd at first but its worth staying with
