Inspiron 1720 replacement

My Inspiron 1720 is on its 2nd battery, I upgraded the memory to 2GB, but after 5 years, it's on life support and I need to replace it. It's a desktop replacement, only moves around the house and the big screen is a must. I'll use it mainly for the internet, watching videos, downloading and streaming films/tv progs, word documents and powerpoint.

I've been looking at the DELL website and the 17R seems to be what I'm looking for.

The thing is, I've got so long out of this one, I'm eager to future-proof myself as much as possible, so while I don't need an i5 processor, should I get one?

If anyone has any alternatives to the Dell with similar spec and/or a better price, please recommend!
