    2005 opel vectra 1.6 petrol.

a jump start was unsuccessful in starting the car. the radio, lights etc still work. car was not used for the last 6 to 8 weeks.

spark plugs recently replaced. may it simply need a new battery, even though radio, lights etc still have power?

could the issue be with the alternator?

If a start with jump leads was not successful then it may be the starter motor.

Did the starter motor turn the engine when you tried it?

You could try a push start to eliminate the starter motor
Can you turn on the ignition, engage 2nd gear, leave your foot on the clutch and ask for a push.
When at the correct speed to start leave out the clutch slowly and it should start.

A push start also failed. I can get two turns from the ignition.

    Have you tried three turns?

If a push start failed then check for fuel starvation - could be a fuel leak, no petrol!, or fuel pump fault.

Could also be the low tension going to the coil.

Could be lots of things at this stage.

Best get a mechanic to look at it

sorry to clarify, no issue with turning the ignition. i am then met with repeated clicking noises and no sign of the engine attempting to fire up...the horn also beeps without me pressing it, which i thought was a strange one!

The solenoid on the starter is stuck,
You could hit the starter motor a couple of times with a hammer to dislodge the solenoid and try again, making sure you have enough battery power.

Failing that you need to get another starter motor, reconditioned or from a scrap yard or even a new one.
However even if the starter is faulty it should start with a push

What Xantia said. That was the problem with my opel and is what a mechanic said about it. i also found that keep turning the key and it would eventually start.
