The Saorview channels on my walker tv {wp46mp4) are pausing and the tv is making a loud high pitched noise intermittently. Its not patching or breaking up just pausing for a second or two.
I brought in a ferguson combi from my neighbours and connected it to my tv/aerial and the Saorview channels are perfect.
    Faulty tv?

My advice is that your TV is not faulty. I reckon the signal is just a bit weak. I suspect if you got a better aerial setup the problems would go away.

Freezing and squeaks are a common sign of a weak signal.

The reason the combi worked OK is probably it is just a bit more sensitive.

If your aerial is very old get a new larger one. You could try an inline pre-amp but generally best to fix the problem and get a rock solid signal from the aerial.

I work mostly in the countryside and I have found a lot of problems with farmer's electric fences. Everytime the fence sends the pulse out, the aerial system picks up the spark and freezes the picture. It is noticible on the analogue signal as a line flashing across the screen every couple of seconds - when the fence sparks. Switching off the electric fence proved this was the cause. I had a fence about 3/4 miles away affecting the signal, probably because it was in the line of sight of the aerial. Check the analogue signal for flashes and if this is the case, check the fence in case it is sparking against a weed or something. Hopefully when the singals go to full strength, this problem will dissappear.
