Just got this from RyanAir. The bit in red is the one that annoys me, because it effects me :D
Heres hoping that it's not retrospectively applied.

    Dear Customer,
    >
    > The Spanish 2012 budget was passed into law on Saturday 30 June, as a result all airlines are obliged, with effect from 1 July onwards to collect increased Spanish airport departure taxes from all passengers booked on flights after that date.
    >
    > It appears that the increased Spanish airport departure tax may also apply retrospectively to customers who booked flights before the 2nd July 2012 and are travelling from the 1st July onwards.
    >
    > In accordance with Ryanair's General Terms and Conditions of Travel (Article 4.2.2) we hereby advise passengers that we may be forced to debit passengers for the increased airport departure tax imposed by the Spanish government for all flights departing from Spain which were booked before the 2nd July 2012 for travel from the 1st July 2012 onwards.
    >
    > Once the Spanish authorities confirm whether the increased airport departure tax applies retrospectively (as set out above), Ryanair will notify passengers by email of the additional charges applicable to their pre 2nd July booking. Passengers not wishing to accept the additional tax will have the option to cancel their flight and receive a full refund.
    >
    > N.B. All new flight bookings departing from Spanish airports made on or after the 2nd July are not affected by this retrospective clause as the increased departure tax has already been included in the purchased flight price.

One more hidden charge to add on to ryan air's list for people who bought pre 2nd July. I wonder will aer lingus do the same?

Got it as well.. Might turn out cheaper to cancel your flight and re book it in some cases given that theyre offering a full refund on original price you paid.

how soon until we get 2nd email giving us the option to cancel?

Got the same email from ryanair today so checked trip advisor. Looks like the extra cost will be about 4 to 8 euro per person... British airways and probably most other airlines will absorb this extra cost but not a hope O Leary will. Just another risk of booking with ryanair... but on the flipside my flights are still working out a lot cheaper than any other airline.

    Hi

I got this message too. Not going to cancel flights because we fly next weekend so will just have to suck it up :(....As it is called a "departure" tax does that mean it is only on flights departing Spain? In other words will it just be €4 to €8 per person x1 or is it x2 (coming in and leaving spain)?

    http://www.ryanair.com/ie/notices/gops/120702-sp_tax_increase_en-GB

The increases are up on the Ryanair website now.

Im flying to Girona in a few weeks which is supposedly 0.42 cent per passenger.

Whats the bets Ryanair add on an admin charge of €10.00 per passenger on top of that??

Yes, its a departure tax only - it must be as I am flying to Spain next week with RA and back with Iberia. I have not got the e mail but my sister who is on a return to Spain with RA did.

I have recieved the E-mail also and have looked at one of the earlier threads on her with the pricing ( so thankyou to who did this as I was worried) and the price is showing €1.92 each but I bet Ryanair will charge the full administration fee to change the booking... Most airways will absorb this price increase I am sure.... and people buying package holidays will probably not have to pay this increase...The thing that amazes me is before I found the thread on here I had gone onto the website to see the prices being charged now and low and behold the return flights are not up.........watch this space for the amount charged:rolleyes:

Just got an email saying they will be passing on the charge and debiting the card used to book.

    Typical.

    Hi,
we have been issued a new card since we booked our flights, Im assuming this will cause issues with Ryanair trying to debit our card for this extra charge, as we also had our e-flow account suspended for same reason, does anyone have any recomondations as to whats the best and quickest way to contact them re this issue, a lot of hassle over 1.72euro.

Our austerity now hits us in Spain.....

1.92 per person for us to Gran Canaria. When I rang Ryanair they said they will only charge the Tax and no extra 'admin fee'. I'll wait to see what the bill looks like first.

just in case anyone had the same issue as me:
I rang Ryanair, had no problems getting through, I explained that my card had been renewed since booking the flights, was told its no problem that someone would ring me to collect payment, or if not it could be paid at the airport at no extra charge.

Are you 100% sure about this? I booked my flights with a credit card that has expired too, just worried that they will try to deduct the amount from my card, it won't go through, and they'll cancel my flights or something :/ I don't mind paying the fee but dont wanna lose my flights over it

    Hi dee.
That was my worry too, that they'd just cancel flights when they tried to debit my card and couldn't, but the customer service girl said that another representitive would ring me or I would pay at airport, I told her I would pay her today but she said no she could not do it that it would be done via a call that I would receive or like I said at airport,
Perhaps if you ring too you might update here and let me know you get told the same thing?
, but Im sure theres plenty of people that would have this issue.

That seems unbelievable, they take payment for a service, their running costs increase, they then just take more money from your card. I don't like the fact that they store your credit card details. To say we are just going to take more money unless you object- that is just wrong. Not everyone regularly checks their email either. Btw I haven't even booked a flight, just saw it on their site.

I rang them today and apparently you`ll get a call from someone on Friday or so to take the extra money thats owed.

I asked would my flight be cancelled if the card was rejected and they said a definative no that there are hundreds if not thousand of customers who no longer have the same card number/expiry date or whatever and the card will be rejected.

They also said that you can pay on check in at the airport.
