Have the Hitachi Touro Desktop 2TB (only USB 2.0) in Harvy Normans Airside for €109 for anybody living out that way.It is lumped together with the 1TB which is €89 so ask if you dont find one.

Nice one OP - picked one up there. USB 3 is a must now given the price differential is so low - even if you don't have it on your current PC you'll defo have it on the next one.

The first thing you need to do with this HDD when you get it is wipe all the crap backup software off it, it's useless.

1000% behind this! But if only it were just useless! I had a drive (iomega ego) with encryption software on it that I didn't want to use but couldn't figure out how to delete - so I just ignored it and never turned it on. Now I am trying to recover some files I deleted by accident only to find that any recovery software can't read the disk because of the crap on it. Took the drive out of it's case and hooked it up to the PC and it wasn't recognised. So way worse than useless some of that stuff! Luckily I can replace what I lost - but not without plenty of hassle.

Good drive, using one for about a year with no issues. Much faster for backups etc than USB 2.0. Got it for £65 before the floods though :pac:

That's a problem with any HDD that has the ability to 'instantly' lock or encrypt unfortunately.

The encryption is applied to all data as it's written to the drive, and then the 'do you want to encrypt this drive?' toggle just controls whether you need to manually enter a key to decrypt it or not.

It means none of the data written to these drives when they're in the enclosure can be read via SATA.

It's not possible to remove or uninstall this feature.

Have the usb 3.0 version, bought it on a bargain alert here, and its an absolute dog, I've been meaning to send it back as faulty

i bought this about 3 weeks ago deleted the software included on it. so far so good. typical amazon the price fluctuates a lot. saw it at this price but wasnt to get it the following day price went up. i waited almost a week and was able to get it at op's price so if you're not rushing it might be worth it keep an eye on the price and wait till it goes down again
