Just back from a short 5k route i usually do no problem and can even get a fast sprint in at the end.

Today with the high humidity in cork (met is saying 93%) i got to 4k and i was pushing myself as usual to get a better time but i got light headed and felt slightly sick and needed to stop for a few minutes.

This has only happened me once before and it was in high humidity and warm day. Anyone else suffer with this.

Also i usually dont eat before a morning run as i suffer from IBS and a run can sometimes trigger it . What i have in the mornings 45 mins before run is a spoon of honey (to help with my hayfever) and a berocca , i then have breakfast after the run.

Any advice ? maybe i shouldnt push myself in these conditions

I live in Japan and in the last few days it has got very humid, 87% humidity and 25 degrees. Last summer it went to 30 degrees with 100% humidity. As it is combined with the heat it means sweating a whole lot more, during the run especially but basically all day and at night when sleeping. So drinking more is probably a good idea. I also didn't push myself at all when it was really humid last year.

Its tough to run in humidity alright. Take it easy and you acclimatise somewhat.

Berroca is just a vitamin supplement right? If it is then taking it without food is not the best way IMO

Vitamins are of little (if any) nutritional value themselves. They are usually compounds which are required by the body (i.e. enzymes etc) to (among other things) process food effectively.

Therefore its better to take vitamins with food rather than on an empty stomach.

Drinking 350ml water with a nuun tablet 1/2 hr before the run really helped me. Not needed for short runs but like over 10 miles etc

Running when it's warm and humid is tough because sweating is much less effective and you overheat easily. The only solution is to slow down a bit until you get acclimatised to it, though in Ireland the warm weather is usually gone before you had the chance to get used to it.

I hear ya , pretty much every run in the last month i have kept bettering myself slightly and would feel better after each run. Not in those humid conditions though i should of known better than to push really hard but im new to running only started in jan to these lessons must be learnt the hard way i guess.

    Why? Just out of interest!

Vitamins (orgin = vital amines) are required by the body to do many things, among them to process food effectively. While its perhaps not the best analogy (am writing in haste), one way to think about this would be using a match to light a fire. Your food is the wood for the fire and the vitamins are the match which helps you get energy from the food.

How many times a week do you run per week? Trying to run faster every run you do is not the most effective way of training - you should mix it up a little, say you run your 5k route 4 times a week - run it easy twice, run it hard once and maybe run 4 x 800m intervals on it another day. You will progress more rapidly this way and are less likely to get injured.
