Saw this this evening while at a loose end and was really pleasantly surprised. I'm not usually a fan of rom-coms, but, with the possible exception of Avengers, this was probably the most enjoyable film I've seen all year. As a bonus, it has the beautiful Alison Brie. There's a moral to the story too, for those who feel that kind of thing benefits a film, but I was content just to chuckle my way through it and laugh out loud when necessary.

It wasn't funny. I laughed once. It wasn't a romcom and wasn't a drama. Some sort of weird hybrid. There were loads of parts where I knew I was supposed to be laughing (according to the cast pausing for laughs in some places) but I just didn't... nor did anyone in the screening I was at.... Not a terrible film and I thought parts of it were very cute. But it seemed really unsure of what kinda film it was. Trying to be funny one minute; trying to be deep the next. And it was overly lengthy.

I didn't like it, overly long, the drama didn't ring true and comedy didn't deliver. It was a good cast that was wasted apart from Rhys Ifans who I thought was great. Oh and Van Morrison must've made a lot of money from this film so good for him.

I went to the cinema over the weekend and it was a coin-toss between this, or "Friends with Kids".

    Friends with Kids won.
    It was really, really awful.

I think that now I'll be biased towards liking The 5 Year Engagement that little bit more whenever I get around to watching it.

Alison Brie's Elmo impression was just incredible! Really enjoyed this film, mostly due to the likability of Segal and Blunt.

    It was far too long

Rhys Ifans, Chris Pratt and Allison Brie's characters were the best imo

    Totally agree with this post.

cant understand the negative reviews. Went with my wife on Friday and the cinema was packed and mostly in stitches. Several laugh out loud moments and the presence of Emily Blunt and Alison Brie was a joy. 9/10

A buddy gave me a copy of Friends with Kids . Havent watched it yet but if it got slated like the above movie I cant wait to watch it.
