    Hey,

Myself and my girlfriend have 3 nights booked for Munich in early October and are going to head to Oktoberfest. We're looking into possibly doing a tour but they all seem to include accom which we already have, pretty much just looking for a day tour which will include a reservation in a beer tent.

Has anyone got any suggestions? Any tips as well for Oktoberfest would be handy.

    Thanks!

When are you going? i.e. weekdays or weekend?

If youre going during the week then theres normally the chance of reserving a table still (will cost about 270euro for the prepaid food and beer, no reservation charge).
And to be honest its a waste of time anyhow as you'll normally find a seat during the afternoon during the week (monday to friday).

If heading at the weekend then forget about reservations.
Your best bet is to queue up early and get one of the unreserved seats in the centre.

regarding tours, day tours of the city can be booked on the spot.
Bus tours go from opposite the main station or what I would recommend is a bike tour.
Mikes bike tours is staffed exclusively by native english speakers and they leave from near the main square Marienplatz so I'd go with them. They aim to be an enjoyable tour as much as informative.

    Thanks Munchkin,

Im going during the week so yeah there probably isnt any point in trying to book a table and going from what I've looked into it seems pretty much booked up anyway.

I was looking at Mikes Tours already, seems like the best thing to do, did one in Berlin and it was brilliant.

I've gone to Oktoberfest 3 times, and this will be my 4th time this year. I have never booked a table. Great craic.

It's a bit misnamed in that it runs all September but only a few days of October. Be aware that German reunification day is on 3 October and the city more or less shuts down.

Im sure it wont completely shut down if the Oktoberfest is on during that time?

Looks good i'll definitely have to check it out. What can you expect at it? Whats the best time to arrive? Most importantly, what amount of money would you expect to go through in a day there?

Expect a lot of dancing on tables/benches. Lots of singing. I've lost my voice 2 years in a row by the end of it! It's great chatting to all the differnet nationalities though. There can be queues outside but sometimes you can just walk right in and then either find a table or get one of the barmaid ones to seat you.

I find the last weekend is the best, but this is just me. It's about €9.30 for a Stein/Mass this year, but you'd give the tenner obviously as tips will work in your favour for getting served again. I would spend a good bit each day and also head out at night. Definitely €100+ but I guess this varies from person to person. It's strong enough beer, so I'd pace myself at the start and not horse into it!

I hope you have already booked your accommodation, otherwise you might have a bit of trouble finding somewhere now. We booked ours back in March/April.
