Looking to start a Metal band - Dublin

    Hi there,

I'm a Dublin based guitar / bass player (a lot more comfortable with the guitar but I can switch if need be) and songwritter. I already have a singer, so I would need a second guitar player, a bassist, and a drummer. I've been playing guitar for like 7 years, I consider myself good enough in rhythm but I'm not entirely comfortable with Metal solos, especially if they're fast, so whoever takes the second guitar position would need to be the main solist.

As for our music, it's Heavy Metal with a lot of influence from NWBH, a little from Thrash, and a bit of Rock and Blues as well. Main bands would be Black Sabbath, Metallica (mostly Black Album) and Iron Maiden, most of my songs being slow, heavy and melodic, with some faster passages. I have a few recordings if you want to have an idea of what it sounds like. I'd obviously want to play my own songs, and cover some classic Metal songs. If you write that's good too.

I'm looking for musicians motivated enough to play gigs and record something at some point. As I said before, the guitarist needs to be able to play fast solos because I can't, we can share the rest of the lead / rhythm parts. For the bass, I like when it's melodic and you can actually hear it, but it doesn't have to be too technical so it doesn't matter if you're not Cliff Burton (I played the bass myself on the recordings I made). For the drums I would greatly appreciate someone who can make a slow riff sound heavy as **** (see songs like Harvester of Sorrow, South of Heaven, The Punishment Due, or bands like Church of Misery, Kyuss... or even Led Zeppelin or the Who.)

So if you read this through the end and you're interrested, please reply to this post and we'll organise something!

Hi, I just checked on Google maps, I'd say it's too far, unless you can travel to Dublin for rehearsals and gigs (I don't have a car).

I would be able to travel but the problem of bringing my kit would be the only problem.

I was thinking of using a rehearsal room anyway, they probably have the basic kits and you would only have to bring stuff like pedals or rides. For a jam / audition I know one or two music shops that have a drum section.
    Your call!

We can try that then! Can we meet for a jam / audition some week-end, to see what you can do and let you listen to some of my songs?

yeah that will be grand!! :) should we get a list together of songs that we could cover for the jam when we meet up??

If we do it in a music shop it would be difficult to do an actual jam (drums and guitars are separated because drums are really noisy) so it'd be more of a "show-me-what-you-got". I can try to look for a rehearsal studio to be able to do something a bit more constructive.

rehearsal studio would be the best option i think!!

Same thing, as long as you can come to Dublin for rehearsals and gigs... (Coolock's not that far anyway).

Maybe it would be best to set up a jam with the three of us to see how it goes. The more, the merrier!
The singer probably won't be here, he's in Brazil for a few weeks at the moment.

For songs to jam to, I was thinking classic and simple enough songs, so we already know them or we can learn them quickly enough, like Seek and Destroy, Peace Sells, Paranoid, Whole Lotta Love, Breaking the Law...

also just adding in, a place in Mullingar that would be handy for a gig if we get this up and going!

I'm right in the city center. We can already put Seek and Paranoid then (Paranoid would be mostly good for pure jamming)

If you want some Slayer, how about South of Heaven? I used to know Raining Blood, I like it less but I can re-learn it. Maybe some Iron Maiden, I know the singer would really like to do Wasted Years or Flight of Icarus on stage. (And Maiden's my all-time favourite band)

I'll give you both my facebook by PM so we can organise a bit easier.

i'll be up for south of heaven!!! very fun song to play :) raining blood is a bit over played at this stage. plus south of heaven is more of a challenge on drums :) raining blood is really easy for me at this stage haha

Just an update on this : we are still missing one guitar player to get started.

I would like to propose myself as second guitar but i read you are looking for a lead guitarist.
I played the guitar many years ago in a trash metal band but I'm not into the solos at this stage.
I'm mainly a keyboardist, played keys in a death progressive band for ages, so I could cover the solos with the synth, but the rythms with the guitar that I restarted to play recently.

Actually we're looking to have the two guitarists share the lead. How good are you with rhythm? To give you an idea for the moment we're planning to cover South of Heaven, Halllowed be Thy Name, Back in Black, Paranoid, South of Heaven, and we'll want to do The Last in Line in the near future. For the solos we're not a tribute band so I'd rather have a good improvisation than the exact same solo.

None of the songs you mentioned represent a poblem, I should have the skill to do the rythm guitar with any problem.

We just lost a drummer, so if anyone's interrested...
As a reminder if you don't want to go through the whole tread, the style is going to be mostly NWBHM with some touches of Rock and Thrash.
